I was running in a local racing series a few years ago.
Wardian was involved in the series too.
I ran a 5K in DC one day and knew Wardian wouldn't be there because he had just run the Baltimore marathon the day before.
I couldn't believe it when he showed up the next day...and beat me.
I only ran 16:30 but I didn't think he could do that the day afeter a 2:27 marathon.
Now this. Incredible!
Mike Wardian is an absolute moron.
The evidence is his performance at the US Olympic Trials where he had no business being apart of. A very good reason why the standard has been raised is a result of actions like these.

He had a better race than Cox or Culpepper.
Please, Wardian hardly ran the trials crazily. He just went out at his normal pace. Is it his fault the leaders pretty much jogged (for them) the early miles.

Have you ever heard an interview of Wardian? He always mentions the great support his family gives hima nd is never a me.me,me sort of guy. He's also been very talkative and receptive to questions anytime I've seen him and asked him something. To each his own opinion, but personally, I'd say he's great for the sport.
Do you guys know somebody else, able to run so many marathons a year, under 2:30?

You're really saying he doesn't take the sport seriously? Just because he doesn't run 1 or 2 marathons a year like you think he should doesn't mean he isn't a serious runner. How can you say he had no business being a part of the trials? He f***ing qualified didn't he? He didn't burn out at 4:30 pace or anything stupid like that, he ran 5:15s or whatever it was and the rest of the pack decided to just sit around with their thumbs up their ass. You are a f***ing joke.

You are just jealous - u think he is not taking it seriously running 2:21? If he is screwing around running that fast, the maybe...just maybe....others could do as well by not taking things so seriously.

I'll take the $5000 bet. He had to go to Steamtown to get his qualifier (super fast course) last year and barely ran 2:21. He will run about 25 marathons and every major ultra between now and 2012 and he will be 4 years older. He will never break 2:19 and I will bet the US$5000.

A marathon a week is nothing to Mr. Wardian. I can't imagine running marathons on back-to-back days.

There was a guy about 8-10 years ago that ran back to back Saturday/Sunday marathons 2:2x-2:3x and ran about 15 or 20 in a year at 2:30 or better. If I remember right he was a masters runner at the time. Anyone remember that guy?

Other factoids
- PR 2:21:37 at Virginia Beach Shamrock Marathon.
- Didnt start running until after college. Played lacrosse @ MichSt.
- Hopes to do ultras, Ironman, etc.
A cool dude...has other things in his life, likes these challenges, and doesnt get to wound up about, "If only I focused".
He probably realizes he has a talent for endurance events, but also has enough common sense to realize this is not his ony talent, and so not worthy of 100% of his time/attention (i.e. to the exclusion of his other interests)

No, I seriously doubt he got any extra swag for making an ass of himself... kind of like the guys who sprint to the lead of the 5k for 100 yds and then start jogging.
On a side note, why do you hate that Arlington store? Do you hate the yuppy customers, or do you hate the store. I'm confused.
