I know he runs a LOT of marathons every year. But this is a bit unusual.
Wouldn't he want to try to blow it out @ the OTs?

he did try to blow it out at the trials. he was the early leader and had 5-10 seconds over the main pack in the early going. he blew up big.
I wouldn't say he necessarily blew it out at the trials. The main pack ran an incredibly slow(for them)first 5-6 miles. His 2:30-ish is what he normally kicks out. He might have been planning on busting out the OBX marathon all along. Probably more money opportunity for him there.
I like wardian... he can run marathon after marathon and still run well. he\'s very tough if he can go 230 then come back with 224.
that 2:24 was at OBX marathon- about 22 miles of that (flat)course are run directly South during which time the runners experienced a 16mph tailwind. It was a superfast day
he is an unusual cat to be sure...he is definitely enjoying himself, unlike a lot of other runners.

I had friends driving back over the bridge from Roanoke Island at 3, eight hours after the start of the race, and there were still stragglers out there. I doubt if they were enjoying themselves, but I would also doubt that they are really runners.
He craves the attention. It appears that if he trained properly that he has the talent to run 2:14-15. But that would require less racing. He rather set the treadmill WR and babyjogger WR.
The wind did help at times, but also had wind in face most of the last 5 miles. Also, the 4 miles on trails was slow, the mulch was very thick on the last mile. The course is not fast, I think is 2:24 is equivalent to sub 2:22. I do not know how hw does it week in and week out.

Wardian is running the JFK 50 miler in Maryland this weekend. Maybe he is stepping up to ultramarathoning? He would probably be very successful.
He was asked if he yearns to match the achievements of ultramarathon legend and entrepreneur Dean Karnazes, the author of the best-selling book "Ultramarathon Man, Confessions of an All Night Runner." Karnazes has run 50 marathons in 50 days and has completed a 350-mile run. Wardian began reading the book Monday night.
But there appears to be a comparative limit to his adventurous spirit.
"What would even be better than that is run 50 marathons in 50 days and still be at my desk," he said. "You can still do these things and do your regular job. People call us citizen runners. Maybe that's something I aspire to do in the future."

This isn't his first venture into ultras. He's run several before including JFK. Last time out at JFK he didn't finish after leading early.
Wardian has raced ultras before. Winning the Old Dominion 100 mile in 2002 (then DQ'd for going off course) Ran a 15 hour 100 mile race in Vermont placing top 5. Ran the JFK 50 mile finishing well back in 2001 after winning the Himalayan 100 mile stage run the previous week.
With a goal and smart prep.(Which he may not be capable of)... He could break the USA 100k record and represent the USA in the Wrold 100k championships.
Yeah... but he's a good guy and just loves to put in serious time running. Anybody else suspect that his sponsors bribed him with some free swag for his 20 minutes up front? ;) That was probably worth a few extra sales from the Arlington yuppies. I hate that store.

he was not at the award ceremony for the national marathon.
He did a u turn and got on a plane to compete in tenesse.
He is a horse.

Many local ethiopian runners in DC love and admire wardian.
You gotta respect this guy.
