What workout have you done that you have been the proudest of?

in college once ran 10X40 in 57-59, while running maybe 20 mi a week due to injury

15 x 1k at 3 min with 90 sec rest on tuesday

20 x 400 at 70 sec with 60 rest on thursday

20 minute tempo on saturday

18mile run on sunday.

repeat for 8 weeks.

I am telling you it is worth a 14:30 in competition (pushing harder and adrenalin flowing when opponents are around) so

this is your new PB.

I once did 50 x 100m as turnarounds with 20 sec recovery.

More recently at the start of this year I ran to a faraway village and back, in bad winter weather, it took a long time and when I got there I was exhausted and I didn't want to run back, but had to.

I had a similar workout my Senior year in HS. 20x200m averaging around 27/28 with the a 100m job between. I felt so good pumping it out. Best shape of my life. Week later, mid-season, stress fracture and I always blame the workout for inflaming the break, but probably would have felt it sooner or later.

Dude, congrats on that PR, Awesome!! Back in 2002 when I was actually running I ran a 16:51 5k. It's not great, I know but I've always wondered what kind of workout I could have done based on that race. Any thoughts? And again, awesome 5k time.

During racing season:

6 x 200 meters in 23.5 or under, with 36.5 or less recovery.

4 x 400 meters in 51.5, 51.0, 50.5, 49.5, with 400 meter jog recovery.

Winter:

6 x 1000 x 300 tempo x 300 pace x 300 recovery. Stepping down from 2:45, to 2:30 or better on the 1ks. (Run a 1k, fall into a tempo pace for 300 meters, then a 300 at 60 second 400 pace, to 55 second 400 pace or better for last 300 in set).

Every 20 miler I ever ran under 5:45 pace, after age 32.

Running most of my long distance NOT on concrete. (Thank you state parks and Pre's trail).

27- 400s...50 jog in between each...400 between sets..3 sets of 9..72-75 pace

I was more of a distance runner but one year I was about 21 we were set 8 x 300m with 100m jog walk rec every week. Eventually got time down to about 44.5 average and was usually nearish to the front of our group and there were some good runners there doing say 43's tops.

Went visiting another club and this group were doing the same session and I asked this guy what times he was running. He goes 35, so I said don't you mean 45? No he says 35. Anyway the 1st rep was 45 and I at the front. 50m, into the 1st rep I realised the guy wasn't exaggerating. On the bend, the last runner (a girl) shot past me! I consoled myself with thinking maybe they were the sprint group. Deep down I new one thing though - don't give up the day job!

8x400 w 1 min rest in 57's high.

6 mile tempo in 35:xx. Running 10Ks at sub-6:00 pace had never been that easy for me, and I rocked it on a slightly hilly road course. Think I ran the first mile in something like 5:40 before settling into the desired pace.

January '85: 12x400 in 62-58 w/ 2:00 rest

1X8k at 8k race pace on an XC course, a little bit before nationals. Ran the workout of my life and was one of the top 5 finishers there. This was a mixed "workout" in which all the teams in my region competed. The best at this "workout" got to go to nationals.

Come on people. Workouts mean nothing, its all about races. There is no reason to be proud of workouts. To me it would be the same as saying "what easy run have you done that you are the proudest of?"

What you can run in a race matters. What you can in a workout means nothing.

Track season: 3X1000 "tempo" (3:15) w/ 1 min. rest, 3X1000 VO2 (2:55) w/ 3 min. rest, 3X400 (58) w/ 3 min. rest. Felt as though I could run 1000s forever.

I've never really had good workouts compared to my races.. but I guess the best would be a 1200-800-400 cutdown with five minutes in between reps. At the time my PR was 4:06 for 1500m. If I recall correctly I went 3:15,2:03,57. Next week I ran a 4:05 but I remember wishing I raced on that day.
