d2 poll out-adams no respect and ashland too much

Men raced in hot conditions over a hilly, mostly dirt (95%), course. Humboldt state's Pete Clusener led the charge early followed by Sean Rivers, Cabada, and a host of others. In the team battle Chico State took charge early in the race with all of their top 5 in the top 15. By mid race things began to change as the Ags looked to be in control, Clusener and Rivers appeared to wilt in the heat somewhat, and Eggers moved strongly to the front around 3 miles. Both teams (Chico and Davis) battled it out in exciting fashion, with Chico coming out on top this time out. Perhaps more interesting was that the Chico State women took down the 3rd ranked Davis team and the 10th ranked team from Humboldt State. Both teams (Chico and Davis) held out a few top runners in both races (men's and women's), and the teams from Alaska and Humboldt probably suffered quite a bit in the heat. Oh yeah, and props to UCSD for both men and women's races. Following are team results:

Wildcats roll to ACU Classic win

Manirakiza leads sweep of top five as ACU wins meet

ABILENE -- ACU sophomore Bernard Manirakiza repeated as the individual champion Friday, leading a Wildcat sweep of the top five as the nation's second-ranked team rolled to the team win at the ACU Cross Country Classic.

Manirakiza covered the four-mile course in 20 minutes, 50.79 seconds, more than 30 seconds better than his winning time last year.

Defending Lone Star Conference and South Central region champion John Kemboi finished second at 20:51.01, followed by Arthemon Sindayigaya (20:53.72), Alfred Rugema (20:55.07) and Martin O'Kello (21:00.43). Nick Branen was seventh at 21:21.06, and Justin Thompson was 17th in 23:28.98.

The Wildcats scored 15 points to easily win the team championship over second-place Northwood, which scored 68 points, and third-place South Plains College, which checked in with 72 points.

Lowery, SDSU men win St. John's Invite

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. ? Brad Lowery won the individual title and the Jackrabbit men's cross country team claimed the team title for the third straight year at the season-opening St. John's Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Lowery, a sophomore from Pierre, covered the 8,000-meter course in 27 minutes, 21 seconds, winning by 17 seconds over teammate Matt Pearson. Clayton Lang and Kevin Doe also finished in the top five with respective fourth- and fifth-place times of 28:12.

Freshman Joel Teachout placed 12th in 28:31, with Scott Roby 13th in 28:34 and freshman Chris Gruenhagen 2oth with a time of 28:56.

Other Jackrabbit finishers included: Kevin Bjerke, 25th, 29:13; Andy Blau, 28th, 29:19; Keal Bockelman, 29th, 29:30; Chris Kopp, 34th, 29:51; Mike Steele, 37th, 29:59; Greg Darbyshire, 42nd, 30:18; Ryan Egeberg, 57th, 30:57; Mike Pecha, 71st, 31:45; Aaron Kuklinski, 82nd, 32:27; and Tom Weerheim, 84th, 32:32.

SDSU won the eight-team event with 22 points, followed by St. Olaf with 51 and St. John's with 70.

The Jackrabbits will take a week off before returning to competition Sept. 21 at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash.

White with a 14:3? 5K pr and All-American will have made a difference. Take 30 or so pts off of HSUs score and you have a close battle.

Louie ran 14:49 as a true freshman and hasn't run faster since, nor has he earned an all american award. Maybe you're thinking of Jason Walker who ran 14:35ish last year and was an AA in the steep.
