How old are Jerry’s kids ? Do they run? Run in college ?
His son competed at Stanford and Oregon, very good in high school, but never really translated that success at the college level. His daughter, now an assistant coach at Oregon ( haha ), ran at UW and had a similar trajectory: strong in high school, but didn’t have much impact in college. I can’t make this stuff up 😂
Don't be a hater. As someone already mentioned, she represents Sweden and perhaps this made business sense to Nike.
Of course it makes business sense for Nike.
They sell their products in Sweden. Swedes have TVs, Computers, Phones, Stores etc, which require film and photos of Swedish athletes in Nike gear. Barnett ran at recent World meet for Sweden.
Why perhaps? If it did not make sense, they would not have done it.

She ran 4:05.39 last year, which ranked her #3 in Sweden and would have been #21 US at age 21. Lifetime bests in 2025 in the 800 (outdoor), 1500 (indoor and outdoor), and mile (indoor and outdoor). Obviously on an upward trajectory. Worthy of a contract.
Wearing a Nike or Adidas uniform does not mean you’re getting paid. This girl never scored at the NCAA meet and finished dead last in the NCAA final last year. Good for her for continuing to run. But it doesn’t seem she’s running for the flagstaff group and if she staying in Eugene no one wants to run for the non existent elite team anyway. Let her train while she gets her masters are Oregon. No way she just running and staying in Eugene. No one is that clueless
I think Mia Barnett has a lot of upside. She’s far younger than most of the Oregon pro runners and is one of those to watch. It’s always that 10 to 20th ranked girl that seems to do the best. From what I can tell, she’s been very durable over the years. She’s the one of the last of the girls who went to college for four years and went pro at a young age.
I don't understand your last comment. It is usually used when something is very hard to believe. But being good in high school and then not shining in college is a very common occurrence.
I thought the main point of going to Oregon (especially with the bad coaching where their runners always under-perform) is the chance at a sweet Nike deal. She got one. Good for her. If she gets away from that coaching I bet she improves a lot.
Cole Hocker seems to be doing okay. Cooper Teare had a nice career there. I think Oregoan won men's and women's Big 10 XC this year.
Nice try. They were coached by Ben Thomas, not Jerry. With the talent Oregon has (M and W) they should be winning NCAAs, not just Big10. But apparently actually coaching your athletes is not something Jerry cares to do.
Check the PRs if the guys prior to arriving and you will see that there are a handful of teams with more talent. But you won't both because facts will just get you more upset.
Sounds like everyone critiquing her in this thread is just jealous. Are we really spending time on this? Why can’t it just be “oh good for her.” Why does it matter what she makes or what the stipulations are? I think there’s a reason everyone in this thread is in this thread and not in a C-suite at a show company making decisions like this
Good for her, because she has a Nike contract doesn't mean she's making true Nike money. There are plenty of Nike athletes who aren't making much more than travel, gear, and a small stipend.

if she stays with Schumacher she’s doomed. Let’s hope it’s a just Nike deal to pick her own coach.

The Bowerman / Swoosh TC - Eugene or whatever they call themselves is dead. No real pro wants to run for a full time college coach who never races his athletes with I’m too cool attitude.
