I can’t blame Nico or any of the pros for not caring about world xc. A mud race against dozens of African drug cheats, with jumping over stupid hay bales and navigating sharp turns doesn’t sound at all appealing. Plus they have to stand being embarrassed once they finish outside of the top 5 in their own home country, where 99% of Americans don’t give a s#/t about this race and most don’t even know it exists. Grant and Cole are at home laughing at these fools for caving in to such a ridiculous race that almost nobody cares about anymore except for us on Letsrun.
There is no Track WC this summer. It would cement them as iconic to medal at a WC in XC!
I want to agree with you, but IAAF/World Athletics has ruined world xc to the point where it has lost all credibility and prestige. It used to be as important as at least the WCs in track, but now is a shadow of what it used to be. When they stopped it being annual, that was the nail in the coffin. That was such a ridiculous decision, among other bad decisions.

Shelby will need exceptional circumstances to stay relevant at the very top and I don’t see Shelby going down that road again. Cooper just isn’t world-class. As for Nico, let’s hope it was truly a one off, because he looked really rough.
Do you really think she is clean now? More likely she's done peaking for the year (and career, sadly).
what difference does Nico finishing 5th and making the team or finishing 1st and making the team have?
it was just a prelim. lighten up on him.
it's a good result indicating a strongish team.
the A listers would have been training thru,. and will come up to speed later on.
I don’t think so, if Nico gets spanked at worlds like he did in Portland , but in FL it’s a bad sign. So far this fall has not been great for him. But as a fan I’m rooting for him. The concern people are pointing out is that the setup he’s in isn’t actually making him better and fall races are usually where you see early proof of concept. Right now, the proof isn’t there. But let’s see in Tallahassee.

Shelby cheated and even Nike won’t touch her with a sponsorship deal. This goes deeper than we even know about.
Cooper Teare absolutely sucks. He is completely unreliable if you are looking at him to have a shot at making any US team on any surface. If you were a betting person, you would lose all your money on him. He has become God awful for any number of reasons, and the only sensible thing to predict is continued failure, because that is the only evidence that we have seen over the past three years. He has become an afterthought, quite possibly worse than Craig Engels now. The two of them would have more luck going the Nick Symmonds influencer route, because there is no snowball’s chance in hell either one of them will ever make a US team again.

She never rebuilt credibility No admission. No reconciliation tour. No acknowledgment of responsibility. Compare that to athletes who at least own it and slowly work back in. Brands see pure downside She’s older. She’s already proven how good she can be there’s no “upside story.” Any sponsor gets backlash and zero goodwill. Even finishing 4th doesn’t change the risk calculus. Athletes don’t want the association Training groups don’t want the distraction. Teammates don’t want whispers. Coaches don’t want questions they can’t answer.

Good thing that Rekrunner only reads doping threads. Otherwise you'd be sorry 😞

I agree with "shelby is sweet": "More likely she's done peaking for the year (and career, sadly)."
What makes it sad is that she lost 4-years of her career at her peak, because the athlete is expected to resolve the ambiguity when the facts are inconclusive. Shelby not only paid the maximum price of a 4-year ban, but she has lost the credibility of many fans, and become a hot potato for brands and teams, because she was unable to eliminate the ambiguity to the satisfaction of a panel of arbiters.
So, any athlete that doesn't produce the results you particularly don't approve of deserve to be taken out and sh*t??? That's the vibe I get from your message. All Hail Remote Viewer, judge and jury or all athletes. What a turd you are.

More simply, she has baggage from the failed test and it’s not surprising that she can’t find a find a sponsor. It doesn’t go any deeper than that and it’s not possible for her to rebuild credibility.

Young will be fine. At the 2023 NCAA XC championships, he finished almost 30 seconds behind Blanks but followed it up with a breakout indoor season.
I don’t know why people are taking his USATF XC result so seriously and I doubt if he was particularly motivated for it. The idea that Smith is sabotaging his training is nonsense.
