Sorry I meant to say I thought the backend needed to stay within reach and front 3 would create the gap. If Thompson runs her usual race as a fifth scorer they might have even won the 4,5 battle against NC state. They won the battle against BYU. Barnett the 6th runner was the 5th who did better than 185th last year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen according to tffrs one race she’s run a 5k. Thompson was 32nd at nationals last year slightly off but respectable at 68th., Frias did great as fourth runner. Cheribet (36th) was 14th last year had an off day. Their young Kenyan star only 18 years old projected 9th was 31st just needs another year under her belt. Ayyilidiz was solid. Still, not sure if they finished 10th and 15th up top they would have had the points. Maybe. But could’ve, should’ve isn’t the sport. They needed things to perfect didn’t have the margin of error.
Similarly to last year, they *technically* could have won it if everyone ran to form, but that’s the reason the race is run.
Silan and Dalia ran as expected/perhaps even better. A couple of off-days for their other runners really damaged them. Wonder if Cherubet fell at any point or may have been ill.
