Why doesen't NCAA have foreigner rules like Japan?

You say this like you think the earth being mostly people of color is a new thing.

I would guess it's because they don't dope and aren't focused on those distances as much as the longer ones.

They certainly have people who are capable. I remember recent Japanese high schoolers running 1:44 800, 3:37 1500, 13:20 5k.

Canadian colleges have foreign athlete restrictions. For XC, two internationals are permitted out of your 6 starters, 4 to score.

I think it's a reasonable approach.

because the world doesn't revolve around running and this will never be an "issue" in college football. heck, basketball has tons of foreign ballers in the ncaa and they get a fraction the amount of complains compared to distance running fans.

America doesn't have enough elite level runners to fill up all the roster spots at the 300+ division 1 programs, 200 Plus division 2 programs and 200 plus NAIA programs. America needs foreign runners.

They don't all come from the same country. Maybe instead of a foreigner limit, a team can only have one runner per foreign country.

It’d be a diverse roster for sure, but culturally that work suck. I’d get homesick pretty quickly not having a teammate from home just because of a rule like that. these are people too, not just athletes.

They can stay home if that's a concern. Lots of American kids study abroad on their own.

I guarantee you wouldnt say the same about a roster like Providence. Logically speaking, it what would would it be okay for a team to only be allowed to have 1 athlete per country? You’re not gonna believe this, but people can choose schools from hearing from a friend’s experience there or maybe a buddy already goes there.

The U.S. has (or had the last time I followed visa issues closely) restrictions on the total number of visas for baseball players. If not, I suspect there would be a lot more Dominican & other nationality minor leaguers and probably more major leaguers as well (assuming that some of the marginal minor leaguers would develop enough to make the majors). One way to check would be to compare the ratio of major league Dominicans to Rookie and A-ball Dominicans and see if it differs from the ratio of major league Americans to Rookie and A-ball Americans.

Separately, if Japanese baseball isn't as good as U.S. baseball, it's interesting that it produced the single best baseball player in the world.

I guarantee I would say the same thing about Providence. One runner per foreign country is a fair policy for all schools to follow. And while we're at it, age max of 24.

America was made for immigrants since it's founders were immigrants. Japan is still alive from ages ago, the same bloodlines since time immemorial. The Old Japan never ended it is here today. Unlike outside where Vikings, Arabs, Greeks, British, Zulu, Mongols, Americans, Bantu conquered, pillaged, raped, ended histories, closed empires. Japan is the same as in ancient times, the same government and imperial family rules in a continuous blood line. America is for immigrants, Japan welcomes foreigners too.
