World Athletics, please do the right thing and null her world record. This effectively confirms she was doped up during it
I think that once an athlete is caught doping or admits to doping, their entire competitive career should be stricken from the record. Damnatio memoriae.
Yes. Shalane agrees! Except for the Shelburrito case of course.
I got the years wrong, but my point stands that they were runner-ups in Chicago to Ruth, and we truthfully don’t know when Ruth started doping so to a lot of us, it casts a shadow on all of her performances.
In 2021 it was warm and Ruth beat Emma by less than 2 mins in 2:22. Perhaps a clean performance. In 2022 she won in 2:14 to Sisson’s 2:18. The 2:14 at the time was 2nd fastest in history and 3 minute PR- I doubt it was clean.
It almost certainly wasn't clean.
But if she's not in the race, they would have spent that appearance money presumably on one of the many other women in the world who can run 2:18. Nike has plenty of athletes who want to win Chicago.
True, rojo, but if she does get DQ'd (which I highly doubt), then the 2nd place will turn into the 1st place. Lots of precedence there, as I am sure you know. See for example Chicago itself, e.g. 2014:
The 2014 Chicago Marathon was the 37th edition of the Chicago Marathon, held in Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday, October 12. Eliud Kipchoge won the men's race in a time of 2:04:11 hours, with a winning margin of seventeen second...
Diuretics didn't make her faster, and I don't doubt steroids for women, although I do doubt steroids for the marathon.
this has to be the most moranic and slam dunk rekrunner reply of all time.
water management is absolutely critical for marathon success, as is weight management. and you are saying that diuretics take no place in a cheater's arsenal?
so the chances are that she will get an olympic marathon gold virtually minutes after coming off a ban she got virtually minutes after achieving the most unlikely marathon wr of all time?
this is ridiculous.
all athletic bodies need this as a wake up call (yet another, wasnt Tom Simpson enough?)
