Well that makes more sense
The title was originally "Pre Nats move to Fri". We added more to it to make it mroe descriptive. Here is a weather forecast that shows a 45% chance of thunderstorms. Columbia, MO Local Weather | AccuWeather
Well that makes more sense
The 2017 New York high school cross country championships at Wayne in the crazy mud is my favorite example of a course getting chewed up running it two weeks in a row. It’s certainly not a pretty sight but if the high schoolers can toughen through it, so can the college runners

Yo skip. It’s because of lightning and “biblical” midwestern t-storms. Read before reacting like a slapdick.
Rojo, you really renamed the thread to reflect your snarky feelings about the "pre-ponement", to make it more "descriptive"? Nice.
Current forecast, according to your AccuWeather link is:
"Looking Ahead:
Thunderstorms in the area late tomorrow night through late Saturday night; storms can bring hail and damaging winds"
They made a good decision, even though it's unfortunate. Can't control the weather. Disregarding it is stupid.

He declared himself to be "vindicated."

Couldnt they just attach a lightning rod to the lead vehicle and hold the meet as scheduled?

Penn state canceled an XC meet back in 2009 when an early snowstorm dumped half a foot of wet heavy snow in mid October. The course was blocked and covered by fallen tree limbs and branches due to still having leaves plus the weight of snow.
John McDonnell's team would have run the race even if they had to make it an intrasquad event.
Douchebaggets.....it's not about a lot of rain. It's about the threat of lightning.
They where only sending the kids and keeping the top guys at home.
Ok fair enough I didn't see that in initial reports- but I still want to see more college races on harder terrain and less golf courses

Mizzou's course is actually easier than a golf course. Take that type of profile with just easy ups and downs and compact the ground into a surface about as hard as a track and you have one of the fastest courses in the country.
update
The Letsrun “article” on moving this race to Friday was some of the worst writing I’ve seen from this site wejo. From the title I thought you were going to do analysis of weather delayed races. Instead you wrote three paragraphs, mentioning on two recent cross country meets that were moved and then brought up the 2018 Boston marathon with the argument(?) “It didn’t stop Des Linden!!” You conveniently forget that Boston 1) didn’t have any lightning and 2) is a race with over 40k participants and millions or dollars invested into it. It’s a bit harder to change the date of a world marathon major.
This is moving a regular season Xc race with MAYBE 1000 student-athletes total up 24 hours. Yes the short notice sucks, you should bring it up to the National Weather Service.
Weren’t you a coach during the famous Heps in the freezing rain? You should know races are canceled for dangerous conditions, not uncomfortable ones. Thunder/hail have always been something that meet directors have to monitor.
Can someone concisely explain the point of something called "pre-nationals"?

It is an annual race held on the same course as the national meet which will be held a month later. It gives teams a preview of the course. The course location changes every year.
I would say a bigger reason or just as much is they do not want to trash the course before nationals. Its in pretty good shape right now bc we have not had a lot of rain here in Columbia MO the past 2-3 months.
I think you see this sort of thing a lot now at outdoor sporting events, where there are much more conservative rules than there used to be when there is any chance of lightning.
Many times there are rules to the effect that you should stop an event if there is lightning within 10 miles and only resume 30 minutes after the last lighting within 10 miles.
I expect it's frequently driven by insurance company requirements.

Eureka! At least one of the board members gets it.
It's not a comfort issue. It's not a course might get roughed up issue. It's not a today's runners are softer than anyone John McDonnell would have cast a loving eye at.
It is a liability issue.
It's sad how stupid rojo is.
The best part is him acting like they just threw their hands up and canceled the meet. No dummy it’s a schedule change. Take a deep breath before formulated opinions please.
