People will hate on this, but this is very true. Hocker would've thrived in a 1500 that played out the way it did today. We'll see how the 5k plays out for him. This years 1500m was very boring with no Jakob and with the Americans not in the mix.
yeah, no disrespect meant to Wightman, but if even someone like Jake Wightman who is well into his 30s, could almost win; Hocker, the reigning Olympic champion and OR holder, who also has far better kick, 800m PR and talent, would have easily demolished the field today, especially when Kerr was out. Not only was his DQ a travesty of justice, but it also denied a real show-down of the best guys. Now thanks to the official who tried to stand on the moral high ground, this 1500m will forever be remembered as a clown show just like Rio. Thank you very much really.
Wightman has a better 800 PR than Hocker. So does Nader.
That said, I agree the 1500 was a clown show, and officials were a bit overzealous, doing the equivalent of virtue-signaling, as everyone has seen similar and much worse infractions, especially from Africans, ignored.

7:23 (1 sec off the WR) in the 3k. Demolished the competition in the 5k, which is his side event, with the last lap faster than today's. Not enough for you?
He also didn't win that much before the Olympic last year, but then we saw what happened.
"Not enough for you?" genuinely not. Yared ran huge races at distances more relevant to the 1500m more recently than the 3k you just cited. He didn't make the team. You also misused the word "demolished" which makes me think you're related to Cole or something. He's a great athlete, but it's tight at the top. There's a narrow margin between winning the whole thing and not even getting the chance to compete, and he messed up.

Why would he thrive when he couldn't even qualify without cheating in a semi that was as fast as the final?
Good point.
Hocker's semi was won in 3:35.50, and due to his poor field sense he couldn't even get second in that without cheating.
The final was won in 3:34.10. There is nothing to suggest we would have done any better in this.
No chance he would have won. It was a tactical race, and he is showing himself to be tactically challenged. (Remember that his only global medal EVER was his a 3:27 win in Paris.)

Aww the widdle baybee is pwaying the wace card.
Snowflakes want to protest a Kenyan marathoner getting a water bottle outside of the small personal drinks zone, then fanboys tantrum when Hocker is disqualified for flagrantly shoving two runners from behind. 😆

Nothing to suggest he would have won? One bad tactical race and there's nothing to suggest he would have won? Hocker in 2021 won the NCAAs and Olympic Trials in 3:35 races that had probably equally impressive closes as the race today and he's definitely improved since then.
I didn't see any shoves from Hocker. He was badly boxed and did the swim move to thread his way through. I saw no consequences. Farken peaked early, indoors, and was running on fumes here. I've seen no many far worse moves not dq'd at world's and Olympics. If Hocker should have been dq'd then Ovett should have been suspended a year in 1980. Hocker was in fine form and was born for races like this. Far from a fluke, he had won Olympic gold in a kick in 3:27.65 OR where he was cut off by Jakob and still rallied to win. Terrible tactics, yes, but the talent is all there if he's in range the last 200m. Now with 7:23i and a U.S. 5000m championship over 12:44/12:45 guys (Fisher/Young), he was more than ready. Our only hope is that he learns that he cannot stay on the inside of lane one of a slow, tactical race consistently and win.
Has Hocker won a single 1500 race (not counting prelims) since his Olympic victory? If not, why then would you say that he would win the World's "easily"? I'm just not seeing any logic here. If anything, the Olympics is looking more and more like a one hit number.
People calling Hocker a one hit wonder are idiots. He’s going to learn from his experiences and get even better. He’s got several more peak years, and yes he would’ve won Worlds. That being said, guys like Laros will improve as well so it’s not gonna be easy to win another championship.

Why on Earth are you using a race from 4 years ago as an argument? He just ran in a 3:35 race and had to cheat to even have a chance.
Calling him a one-hit-wonder at this point is stupid, but so is thinking that he would have easily won. His runs last year are not really relevant, since he really has not been that good (at 1500 at least) this year. How is someone who is the 19th fastest runner at 1500 m this year considered an overwhelming favorite?
