What made them such a great team for such a long period of time, was his role as a de facto GM. With the salary cap, once a team reaches a Super Bowl level, there isn’t enough money to resign enough players to keep it going. Belichick was outstanding with his draft picks and in finding good athletes from the scrap heap. Without Belichick, Brady would have been on half as many teams capable of winning Super Bowls.
