Easier than ever to gamble and bang in other places. Before, Vegas was state of the art regarding that. Now the competition has closed in on them. Degeneracy is available everywhere now, thankfully.
RIGHT?? I had sooooo many holidays in las vegas, it's a fascinating city, and we'd go because it was cheap - they made their money off gambling. I've been avoiding it now because it's more expensive and a holiday destination for families - it works until you have a situation like now.
The casinos on the strip did away with free parking, implemented resort fees, got rid of the $5 & $10 table games, killed the cheap buffets and now nickel & dime people to death with these new "fees" at restaurants and bars. Comped rooms are only for the "whales."
True. As another poster noted (why was hia post removed?) you either have to be “whale” or have relatives like an Uncle Morrie or cousin Jonathan in the casino biz to get comped. That’s the kind of crap that Las Vegas has degenerated into.
All the bootlickers on here blaming it on anything but Trump are funny. Everyone knows tourism is way down this year because nobody wants to go to a collapsing America with gangs of masked terrorists with govt badges roaming the streets and the laws and the constitution being completely ignored. In 2025 the US is no longer the land of the free, and it is no longer a destination people want to go to. Vegas is a tourist town, so the Trump effect is causing it to be hurt even more than the rest of the country.
Someone on here said its the tariffs...that has nothing to do with tourism. Tariffs effect products, and they are hurting the economy and consumers as they are raising prices on many things, but its the lawlessness and corruption imposed by Trump that is hurting tourism. Nobody wants to go to a country where they might be kidnapped by govt agents, or just in general they don't want to support such lawless authoritarianism with their money. Can't exactly blame them. Lots of people are cancelling trips to the US while is it controlled by Trump's criminal regime.

It is possible you just have a severe case of TDS.
I suspect you’ll respond with infantile name-calling, but if not, feel free to refute what I said in my previous post about the business model being obsolete.
I’ll also add the Vegas has been facing competition from around the country in the form of “Racinos,” race tracks that also have casinos, which offer a similar product.
Well perhaps if the prices for everything weren't astronomically high people would still visit vegas. I went 12 years ago and it was still outrageously expensive

'90s, 2000s Vegas was great--by 2014 more corporate but prices were reasonable--we went last year and seems like Vegas jumped the shark in a big way after COVID--no cash payments at resorts yet winnings from the sportsbook are cash?!, resort fees, parking, I could go on...a lot of better places to travel to watch a show, dine out or watch a football game in my opinion...
you are delusional if you think the economy is going in the right direction...the stock market is doing well because businesses are charging so much>>higher profits. Housing, commercial real estate, home prices, employment are all going in the wrong direction and will get much worse.
Here in the real world, while Vegas tourism is down the economy is shifting to large warehousing (Amazon, etc) in North Las Vegas and some movement on big data centers. Trump has had little effect on the economy here; the real shift was during the economic crash during Obama (not blaming Obama even though I am a Trump supporter). I moved to Vegas in 2010 and tourism was completely dead because of the national economy. Then the city shifted to targeting mostly Chinese/international high end tourists since they had all the money then, and prices have never been the same. I never go to the strip or anywhere near it. When we go down to Nike (Caesars) to load up on shoes for the year, I pay $25 to park. That's about the only time you'll see me on the strip. I know I can buy the shoes online but my daughter likes to go into Nike and try them on.
Many Canadians have boycotted taking U.S. trips and buying American products since the spring. That’s when President Trump made false claims and belittling comments about Canada in the midst of a tariff war.

but i thought capitalism...?
Uh. This is definitely capitalism at work. Vegas is too expensive for the trash that they present and they haven't done themselves any favors with their hospitality taxes that run up the prices of rooms. They took their visitors for granted and it's working against them now.
I just had a great dinner two nights ago at a new Indian casino that's super nice, incredibly clean, and very easy to access. Capitalism, my friend, is offering competition.
