It was a nice win, but this was a weak field.
Ironically, this win will probably set Nuguse back. It will fuel a misguided belief that he a top 1500 runner when in actuality it is time for him to move up to the 5000.
Terrible take lol. This was a solid field and it became more about tactics, positioning and execution than anything else. Nuguse passed with flying colors in what could be a lot like a Worlds semi. The top 4 look like good bets to make up 1/3 of the final in Tokyo. If anything, the race seemed to separate the contenders (top 4) vs some somewhat hyped/formerly well-regarded guys.
Only because you massively overrate both Cheryuits, who would both have beaten Nuguse if they hadn't left it so late. And Nordas has not shown he is in 3:29 shape this season. He even came second in the Norwegian 1500m Championships the other week.
Myers got badly clipped again and did well to stay on his feet and finish in 6th. He would likely have finished ahead of Nordas if not for that.
Some discussion in the live thread but he and Koech are the only Americans capable of winning Diamond League 1500s.

Nordas ran 3:47.68 which was pretty darn good. He lost that 1500 but ran a 13:0x 5,000 the day before. It’s funny that you say I’m overrating the Kenyans because I watched the Myers trip and it was minor. Maybe it cost him beating Hoey but it was irrelevant to the last 100. I don’t see any reason to believe he was going sub-12.6-7 in that. I think Myers is progressing well but he isn’t at the level of the top 4 from what I’ve seen.

It was a 3:33 race and he was on his feet and unimpeded the last 100. Again cost him some position and a place probably. Reynold and Tim were blocked/rebuffed by Gourley/Lagat/others several times getting their strides checked. They still could kick because in a 3:33 race you’re fresh.

I think Hocker is more than CAPABLE of winning a DL 1500. Kinda sounds like your throwing shade on other American 1500m runners.
Haters? Nuguse is constantly praised on this forum. He and Tsegay are the most entertaining modern runners. The vast majority of us want to see him make it to Tokyo. Amazing race!
