Some discussion in the live thread but he and Koech are the only Americans capable of winning Diamond League 1500s.
Nuguse gets another won.
Diamond League wins
4 Nuguse 1 Koech 0 Rest of Americans
Ritz deserves props too.
Take it easy - the Olympic Champion and multiple US champ Cole Hocker is clearly also capable of winning a DL meet whether he has done or not.
Yeah this was an important race for Nuguse in many ways, but he's one of the most naturally talented runners in the history of the sport. He ran a really good race today because at that pace the last thing you want to be doing is making and covering multiple moves all over the place which just dent your strength in the final 100.
He made a great move with about 220 to go to get past Myers and not get sandwiched by Nordas which won him the race and you never know, if Jakob doesn't show in Tokyo, this is exactly the type of final we could see.
As for Ritz - what props does he get here? For getting Nuguse ready to win a race that he should always be contending in no matter what? Not sure about that.
If he had run Nats like he ran today, he could have made the team. Front running the entire race is a flawed strategy.
Still has a shot at WC. just needs to win DL final, which won’t be a fast race unless Habz takes it after pacer drops out
I personally hate the the DL final has any sort of pacemaking. Did the old GP finals ever have pacing (which is what the DL final basically is?) - no, because it's a final. But yeah he has to feel better about his chances of winning in Zurich after today - winning can be contagious in this sport.
Too inconsistent. Wins one big race and the announcers, especially Kara G. fall all over themselves hyping him up and then he's an also ran. Rinse and repeat.
I'm glad he hasn't given up on the season and hope he hauls ass in the final. Hoey looks cooked.
And no wonder - the most time he's (Hoey) had away from racing since the beginning of this year is 34 days.
That type of race was there for him to win - perfectly set up for a 1.42 flat, sub 3.30 guy to win and he was in THE spot with 150 to go but he's just sort of in cruise control mode right now because he's close to fumes.
He closed a 3:33 race slower than the USA medalists closed a 3:30 race.
More disturbing on that front is Kessler. Reynold Cheruiyot 12.1, Tim 12.2, and Kessler…12.6? Nuguse and Nordas did work on the last lap for positioning which explains their 12.7 and 12.8s. No excuse for Hobbs, he just doesn’t have that gear.
