I bet his wife paces him and he is about 10 minutes short of course record still with a fantastic performance. Women’s cr has a shot today.
Megan will probably pace the last leg. She's about 9 months post partum, and training and racing well. Anything could happen, but I suspect David will chop 10-12 minutes from his course record, in the neighborhood of 15:15, as it's significantly cooler than last year and overcast, which should set him up for a faster, easier finish.

He’s one of the best 100 milers at altitude. I’ll never doubt him at any of these races at altitude.
I should say influencer—->steroids—>hyrox—>marathon—>leadville 100 pipeline. Pure ego maniacs in this race.
The amount of “go one more” hats I saw out there was crazy. It was like an Austin Texas convention
the DNF rate is insanely high already, I think there’s already 300+. and the weather was PERFECT this year. Nick bare types are who this race caters to now unfortunately, not pros or even most good Colorado runners (based on the communities I’m in at least)
truett Hanes is definitely on gear but he’s also not very tall which makes it easier to be that jacked I guess…: was surprised when I saw him in person

This is amazing. Congrats to him. I'm sure he'll talk about it on the podcast for months and it'll blow up his ego again and he'll go into WS next year even more pompous. I think he's talked about some genetic anomaly that doesn't let him feel altitude and that combined with the no serious competition at Leadville makes it a dream race for him.

If that’s true, he needs to line up at hard rock and prove himself or do a route like Nolan’s.

i keep seeing people complain about his ego but i feel like if anything he's too humble.
maybe I'm wrong because I'm not a regular consumer of his content but i listened to one of his podcast episodes before WS where he glazed both Jim and Kilian for a while, and said something along the lines of "with both of them, i had 0% chance of winning, with only kilian, i have 0.0001% chance".
then he also said something about how unlike the "dudes" of the sport like those two and some others who are freakish athletes, he's just a random guy who trains hard so he'll never be as good as those guys.

Yes he is always saying this. I feel like if you really listen to him, he is relatable. Like he also says the only reason he's so positive is because there is no point to life. Everyone suffers, everyone dies and all that is waiting for us is the void. I mean if you really think about it, there are only two options. Be a sh1tty person and let this fact take over your life or meet the darkness with dignity and extreme love. It's a way to rebel against existential dread and it makes sense to me at least.
