No, Garcia-Romo literally skipped Spanish Championships due to his struggles. I don’t think he’ll be competitive. 3:49hi Holt vs Hoare feels right to me with Ky coming over the top ftw.
Came over the top earlier, but not surprised he won
It must be exciting racing under those conditions with the tunnel of fans!
The videography, with judicious use of drones (or whatever overhead positioning of cameras) to get around the crowds is well done. The only knock on the venue would be the dim lighting in some places on the track. But to the racers, that probably adds to the uniqueness and uncertainty with the close crowds.
Ky Robinson beats Olli Hoare in a mile? that's embarrassing for Olli. Ky is a 5/10K guy
It’s a little embarrassing considering they’re both Australian and that (apparently) Hoare was talking about breaking Myers’s national record. Ky Robinson is legit at the mile/3k distances though. In fact, 3k might be his best distance at this point.
The 3:52.79 he ran last year was more impressive than the time suggests, because he did a lot of leading and was only beaten by the hometown hero (Pihlstrom), who’s run 3:30.87 this year:
Indoors this year, remember that KR was the only guy to attempt to hang with Fisher and Hocker at Millrose, splitting something like 4:58 through 2k and “fading” to a 7:30.38. Then at World Indoors, he was 3rd behind Jakob and Aregawi:
1. Jakob 7:46.09
2. Aregawi 7:46.25
3. Robinson 7:47.09
…
So in a way, it’s only as embarrassing as it is to be beaten in a mile by someone who can probably run ~3:49-low and 7:28.

Kai is a great runner and, as you point out, maybe a little underrated this season given it is his rookie season and he's had some pretty damn good results. But yes, on Coffee Club Ollie mentioned feeling like he was in "3:46-47 shape" and hoping to come through 1k in around 2:20." I know he wants to speak confidently and show good results for the Aussie selection but this felt to me as a kind of desperation listening. This simply wasn't the race to chase that kind of time or record and he should have just said, he's focused on racing and the win. But again, there really is no shame to losing to Kai even though I'm sure there's some sting in losing to a countryman and a teammate.

lol I just started chuckling he he said that foolishness, like "oh lord, here we go again" 😆

I can never figure out with Olli how much his hot takes are just him trying to add drama to the sport and attract interest (he certainly understands the value of entertainment and fans and how that impacts athlete compensation), or just trying to talk himself up before races. Perhaps a little of both.
