Something about this entering-at-the-last-minute thing 2 years in a row still doesn't sit well. It's giving immaturity and speaks to a lack of professionalism.
She might come out and run back-to-back-to-back 1:57s and make the team, then pop off a 1:54 to win worlds, but damn, does she sure know how not to manage the public's perceptions of her.
And if this is Bobby's doing, I would be livid if I'm Athing.
Kersee THINKS that people are on the edge of their seat waiting for her to register, constantly hitting "Refresh" on the USATF page. The reality is, nobody gives a $hit whether or not the runner with the 31st best time in the US this year competes. I'm sure the other runners hope she doesn't because none of them want to have their World Championship dreams crushed the way Nia Akins did in 2021 by someone who seems to have no idea how to run in a pack despite competing for over 10 years. She might make the semifinals; she will not make the final.
Yeah, I'm sure Kersee really cares what 8 losers on letsrun think
Correct. He only cares what the docs tell him athletes’ labs look like. Of they reveal PED use, excuses will be forthcoming.

It's surely her agent or coach doing the entry isn't it?

You are the author of about half of the posts on this thread. You obviously care alot.
The other one MIA is Addy Wiley. I thought I saw her entered earlier but no longer there. BTW entries end PT not ET. Also Jonah Koech was entered earlier in 1500m with 800m time - now he doesn't show in either.
They’re both there now and do it Koech. All say “open” and I’m guessing soon to be qualified.

I told my friend Athing Mu’s so fast, she could outrun death. He said, “Yeah, but her talent’s so unreal, I’d still die for it.” I said, “Cool, her 800-meter record’s your funeral playlist.”
As I said, she did the same thing last year and you now look like a total moron! You clowns are supposed to be journalists and there you are proclaiming that Athing is not running with no evidence other than she didn't enter on your prescribed time line. Even a clown takes his clown make off every now and then. Not you 2.

I really think you people are mentally ill. How does the timing of her entry affect you? I'm being serious now. Lack of professionalism? Entering a meet by the deadline but not on your preferred timeline makes her unprofessional? Are you ill? WTF is wrong with you?
I have to give credit to Kersee. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering if Athing would declare. The strategic ambiguity, the entertainment. It just doesn't get better than this.
So the guy / gal saying that no one cares is in fact posting about it in the middle of the day on a Tuesday? Do you not realize that your post PROVES lots of people care?
Hell I'm getting a slew of texts from an 800 Olympian about it tonight and that's why I came to the forum to see what people were saying. Jonathan Gault has admitted he's refreshed the entries at least 10 times today.
The reality is she's a unicorn. Starting in 1972, the US has 1 gold medal in a mid-d or distance event on the track for the women - 800, 1500, steeple, 5000 or 10,000. We are 1 for 51 with that one belonging to Athing Mu.
The fact that she might not even enter the USA championships when she is 23 is wild. Hundreds of thousands of people on here would seriously consider dying for her talent.
What good would having her talent be if you had to die for it?
I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. For the last couple years Athing Mu has shown zero confidence. Entering at the last minute is a no-confidence scared move. Personally I think she needs to overhaul her process, get a new coach and sit down with a serious mental health professional, because right now she’s running scared. Its so unbelievably frustrating watching one of the best runners in the world racing in low level college meets and generally folding like a cheap suit whenever it gets hard. I hope she wakes up and realizes there are better training and coaching situations before she is old and looking back.
What was the point of adding Athing at the last minute other than to keep the 8 posters on this thread in suspense? Outside of this thread, no one care.
One assumes that, based on her poor form this year, there was some 'discussion' between Athing & Kersee as to whether she should run. That would be the obvious explanation for such a late entry (other than a niggle...).
As to which one was the one pushing the other, who knows. I can just as easily imagine Kersee wanting her to DNS & her wanting to run, as I can believe she isn't up for it & he wants her to run. Take your pick.
Anyway, it is good news she is running. Or down to run. Whether in top form or not, she's the former Olympic Champ, she's a talent, and she has a lot of fans. And I always respect those that enter even not at their best, rather than not enter to avoid a loss.
