Leaving it a bit late for a "rust buster". I don't get the folks who think one or two races in the bag, before the big dance will suffice. Why not race more if not injured? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You can only play the cards that are dealt to you, not the ones you want.
I like to think that I know something about the steeplechase, as well. Unlike you, I didn't even qualify for the steeplechase my Senior year, so I'll have to defer to your expert opinion. ;-)
Your post-collegiate steeple career was a bit longer and more illustrious than mine, so you seem to have figured the event out.

My Senior year I ran my first steeplechase on May 27, not qualifying for nothing. Two weeks later at nationals (AAU entered unqualified) I set the AR.

At Stumptown Twilight. Only a 3 woman field and Allie was essentially solo from the gun and still ran the fastest season opener of her life by over 2 seconds (9:35.11). Looking good to get back into the 9:20s again!
This is awesome, by this time last year she had already ran a 9:24 (opened with a 9:37 in April but only finished 4th in that race) so I think she should be able to get close to her PB.
no offense but a 9:35 for a woman is like an 8:4x for a man.
What is it about this former NCAA top 10er that is so much more special than the rest?
It's been years since she's had a chance to win any sort of big title.
What's with calling the former NCAA 3x champ in the event a "former NCAA top 10er"?
Running a race solo, apparently while in hard training fatigue (per her YT), the opposite of tapered, in a season debut is not representative of what she can do later in the season. I can see her running around 20 seconds faster this season.

Oh, so sorry! I guess I must have misremembered her as being in college around the same time as Emma Coburn.
Having always won as Coburn did, I guess she must have moved on to win gold medals at the elite level and approach sub 9.
You are that guy 🤷. If you know she was an NCAAer, you know she won NCAA steeplechase 3 years in a row. . . every time she ran it (forgoing final season because she had graduated).
Wow Running UberNerd, the women are really running 8:10s for 3k steeple now? Man I’m an idiot, and to think I thought Daniel Lincoln was killing it back in the day!
He clearly means if you are running 8:10s for flat 3k, you hurdle form doesn't matter as much.
no he wasn’t, who the hell is running 8:10s for flat 3k in the steeplechase… a few Kenyans, maybe… faith Kipyegon had run 8:06 I doubt any steeplers are finishing anywhere close to her.
surely No Americans in the steeplechase are running sub 8:30s
She was also caught with a masking agent positive like Ruth…
But she admitted it immediately and it was in a medication prescribed by her dermotologist for her acne. She stated it was her fault for not looking the drug up in the RDO database and served her ban with no fight or excuses. Anyonecould be doping, even her. But It was pretty much model behaviour for anyone who tests positive for a banned substance.
Allie Ostrander, one of Alaska’s most successful running stars, was given a four-month sanction by the United States Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a banned substance.

he just mistook 8 for 9 get over it, was a joke
Half a thread debating an obvious typo. Good stuff. Doesn’t change the fact that Allie O will be lucky to make the final and a non factor even if she does.

She won't be a non-factor if all goes well. Unfortunately, US Women's steeple is a crowded bunch right now. Look at the Oly Trials results: she was 7th, but I wonder a. How much running Marissa Howard has left in her and b. if Holladay-Lowry or Markezich will even run steeple. If the race splits early, I don't see her able to go with Constine and gang. If it stays slow, she might be able to win a war of attrition.
Her training and racing never makes sense. She could run 9:0x, 9:30, or never make the heats. Time will tell

No... I'm being sarcastic
being an NCAA steeplechaser doesn't mean squat in the pro world, unless you were a very fast one like Coburn.
Ostrander is not. She has no chance to be within 200 meters of the winner of an elite steeple championship.
let's see how much time you waste generating proxy downvotes on this post, it will still be faster than Ostrander's steeple time.

I only gave you one downvote for each of your posts in this thread. You deserved every downvote that you got.
Even if she never makes another US team, what she won in the past happened and was deserved.
You being sarcastic just makes you sound like a dumbazz.
Someone who was 7th at USA last year (and has been 4th) certainly has a chance to get top three. There is always turnover in results. Pro runners frequently screw up their training, get sick, have bad seasons, are pregnant or just had babies. They can also make big jumps. Like Constein (9 months older than Ostrander) improving by 15 seconds last year. Marisa Howard last year improved by 15 seconds at age 31. Frerichs improved by 17 seconds in 2017. Halladay, who Ostrander beat last year at USAs, has improved by 14 seconds this year.
I thought she was clumsy with all the water jumps, she was slow on all but the last lap. she can be better with the laps but where can she practice water jumps
I was surprised at how poor her hurdle skills are. She stutters to most of the barriers and can't get out of the water with one foot so has to re-accelate each water jump. If she were good with this she might chop two seconds per lap.

I agree with this, she was better at running in College. No mis-cues then just titles 3 of them.
