Again, all makes sense now. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that race gets run 1,000 times, Centro finished outside the top 6 on 999 of those instances. The perfect storm of his competitors playing EXACTLY into his hand led to his victory.
Now add on him having super spikes when others didn't. All makes sense.
Obviously OP, missBS and The Beaver's Creek are all the same people. But, using supershoes in a 3:51 1500m race would make no sense when it comes down to a sprint.
Nope. I was simply wondering. In the process, I learned that Rupp had the super shoes in the 10,000 however. I wonder why Mo did not (or did he?).
Mo certainly did, among other advantages he was allowed so a certain story could be sold to the masses.
Super shoes don't even help in the middle-distance races. Abdi Bile closed the last 800 meters at the 1987 IAAF World Track & Field Championships in 1:46.00, which is still the fastest split ever. David Rudisha's world record is almost 13 years old now.
So…Nike gave Centro and NONE of its other athletes a secret super-spike AND made it look identical to the other spikes its athletes were wearing at the time? Quite the Swiss-cheese conspiracy we have on our hands…

just FYI, Ville-Marie is a borough with many neighbourhoods included in it so if you’re closer to centre-sud/le village or Old-Montreal, or the Golden Square Mile, etc. will make a difference on where/when to go!
As another reply already said, these are a special make-up (SMU) pair of spikes, Mamba upper with OG Victory spike plate.
Interestingly, behind him Taoufik Makhloufi's spikes were also technically an SMU, but its just the Victory 2 in the Olympic colorway. Everyone else was probably wearing the Victory 3 which was the big new spike for that cycle.
Crushes a guy we're 99.9% sure was on blood boosters. Centro's coach is banned for doping his athletes, did he get the Rupp/Mo special sauce too? The slow pace certainly helped, making it a tactical battle about acid levels, form, and composure rather than just O2 carrying capacity like Le Toure and Mo's 5/10 double.

Exactly. The fact that everyone sticks their head in the sand and refuses to believe that SOMETHING wasn't going on with this race is baffling.
There is a very high probability that his spikes had a carbon fiber plate. That kind of tech was nothing new and Nike did have it in their Victory series of Mid-d spikes. And between you and me, the spikes were very very good for running fast.
Agree. People here are so blinded by their love of Centro and his "gold" that they can't accept that he very likely had an unfair advantage the rest of the competitors didn't have.
This thread inspired me to go rewatch that race. You all are classic internet trolls.

Not sure how this thread got all conspiracy theory. It was a simple question
i believe that all 3 marathon medalists (Kipchoge, Lilesa and Rupp) had the super shoes. It was not illegal.
I found out from this thread that Rupp had super spikes for the 10,000 (he came 5th). It seems that Mo did not. I have to assume that they were a very early version and were not amazing. Rupp probably saw a small marginal gain, but Mo did not. Rupp never hid this fact (nor did he advertise it), but it was not illegal.
It seems that Centro did not have super spikes. Nike probably worked on a distance spike first and got that one semi done for Rio. The distance spike surely did not give him an advantage.

No, it’s another example of no-talent jealous dweebs who hate any succesful American runner. Hocker gets the same treatment from these failures.
That’s it. The dorks literally hate most sucessful Americans, unless it’s someone like Donavan or Yared. It’s as if they’ve been trained to act and think this way.
