That was good race from him... Sorry he doesn't target mid season time trials for internet points.
He got smoked by three other guys who also don't target mid season time trials. Hocker isn't the only guy in training, despite what this totally not usa biased board says.

It's a late season. If you ask ANY elite runner, late season championships are challenging to navigate. You have to start your season later than usual, and adjust training accordingly throughout the year. Mr. Hocker is in a good spot right now, and should be more than ready to run fast in the late summer.

Why are there 8-10 people a hell of a lot faster than him right now?
Exactly. He knows how to peak well for a one off race but the criticism of him is warranted for being the best throughout the season. We'll see how he does at USA's but so far he is for sure not the best.
He almost set a 3k world record indoors and just PR'd in the mile lol. If that a "bad start" to the year 6 months in, you freaks are lost for good & not worth saving.
(A "one off race" that is THE RACE EVERYONE DREAMS OF WINNING. Lol. Freaks)
It’s not a bad start. Who said that? Reread my post.

They don't know how to "peak"? Not buying that!
8-10? As they say, your "math ain't mathin'"
Jacob is injured, but we'll give you him just based on his historical excellence.
Kerr? Lost to Hocker earlier this year in Jamaica, but edged him by 7/100s of a second in Philly, but okay, we'll give you him too.
Nuguse? Lost to Hocker in Philly, but had a great run at Pre, so fine, we'll give you him as well.
Laros? 2-5 lifetime against Hocker, but sure, we'll even give you him off of his great close at Pre.
So that's 4 guys. Who else? Habz? Also 2-5 lifetime against Hocker in the 1500, but his "secret sauce" seems to be working just fine this year, so we'll throw him in too.
5 guys. All of whom Hocker has beaten--or more important, likely will beat in Tokyo.
Thus, your "8-10 guys" is a bit off, and I will mark this post and come back to you in September and serve you a generous helping of humble pie when Hocker likely wins (definitely podium -- mark it). You silly, silly man.

Appalling
And that does not even include Laros' Pre performance at the mile ...
Hocker only won because Jakob made the biggest mistake of his life- left the inside Lane wide open! Had Jacob stayed against the rail, Hocker never would have won- he would have been blocked

He did block him once—interrupted Hocker's stride and he had to reboot his kick. Kind of crazy that Hocker probably wins by 3-5 metres if that doesn't happen.

you fools just can't make up your mind whether you want to see record chasing time trials at historic Hayward, or glorious medals months later at a championship.
You constantly argue that both aren't likely to happen, especially when they don't. But you still want them both to happen. You wanted Hocker to break the mile WR AND win medals later too. But when the first thing didn't happen, therefore it couldn't have, is your best option.

We don’t know that for sure. I’m guessing Hocker would have passed Jakob on the outside if Jakob kept the inside closed tightly instead of it opening up slightly like it did with 120 to go. Hocker won by .15 seconds so if he went outside of Jakob, maybe that margin of victory shortens to .05 or maybe it doesn’t because his momentum may have not been blocked passing on the outside. Jakob’s biggest mistake happened at the beginning of the race taking it out in sub 55 seconds.
- it's actually faster than where he was two years ago, when he did ... (nothing)
- Diamond League races are overrated...
- He will be there when it counts...
All BS. All athletes race to win, to be the best.
If you don't win races, you're not the best. I don't consider him top 3 right now.

Agree it would be nice if Hocker could hold top form all year like Jakob, but the 'American way' in coaching has always been about carefully peaking.
This year with seemingly 10 guys a threat to make the team, being sharp at US trials is critical.
Someone among Hocker, Kessler and Nuguse probably screws up and misses team.

i don't think hocker has a secret peaking strategy. his body just responds better to a taper than most.
you don't see that taper giving the same magic to cooper teare, right?
