Henrik Ingebrigtsen was a European champion BEFORE the tv show was filmed. Jakob is running 20 races a year for the past decade with a gradual improvement curve. Some villager running 3:27 in his second race or whatever is coming out of nowhere. He's a nobody.
None of your blabbering changes the truth. If Koech had the same promotion and resources that Jakob had as a boy, you would have known about him before this year. You know about Koech now, and many more people will know about him soon.
It doesn’t really matter. If you are dialed into Kenyan running you know who he was. If you weren’t like most people, you didn’t. It’s a meteoric rise, and now with 2RunningClub he has all the resources he needs to compete with the best. He also is going to get tested a lot. The average for a Kenyan Paris Olympics member was 12 tests in 9 months (9 OOC). So if he’s a blatant doper, he’ll be exposed through whereabouts failure, ABP or a positive test.
Not really at all comparable. By the time he was winning, he was very heavily suspected of doping.
So is Jakob, by the intelligent at least.
Of course, to break a world record, you have to beat all the super talented super high responders who train super hard and super smart, of all times until today. The only way to do that is to be great in all four categories.
There hasn't been a clean WR in at least 45 if not 50 years. Too much doping with too strong PEDs since then.
Let’s completely set aside the possibility that he may or may not get busted in the future.
How would you feel if, after all this time, some relatively unknown pops up out of nowhere and breaks the WR? Would it be aggravating that so many seemingly more trustworthy athletes like Jakob, Kerr, Hocker, Nuguse, etc. have been getting closer and closer, only to see it get taken down by some unknown?
Obviously if Koech is doping, it would be preferable if he doesn’t touch the WR at all. But, given the suspicion around El Guerrouj anyway, do you really care if another highly suspect athlete takes the record? Is it “special” to you at all, or do you not really care to see it go?
just curious about what people think.
With all due respect, just the thought of this makes me want to puke my f**king guts out.
I have no interest in meeting this man. I can't even say his f**king name.

I would say that’s almost true, but maybe something like Alekna’s discus WR, so dependent on conditions, would hold up.
I could also believe Lewis and before him Smith and before him Hines in the 100, especially Smith and Hines.

You should spend a week in Kenya so you can learn how to say his name and expose yourself to the beautiful culture of the Kenyan people.
The thought of Koech coming from humble beginnings and overcoming the odds to break the legendary record inspires me. Koech breaking the record would show children all over the world that they can achieve their dreams no matter where they come from.
Jakob has had every advantage since he was a boy. High level coaching, VO2 max testing, lactate measuring, resources to travel to compete in international track meets, a PR team chronicling his exploits and growing his brand. Him breaking the record would only show that people born on third base have an easy time scoring.
I'll be thrilled when that record is gone. I view it in the same fashion as Michael Phelps' 4:03 at 400 individual medley swimming. That number was touted as the best record in the sport only because Phelps held it. But under any big picture examination there were certainly superior records, like Lochte's 1:54 at 200 individual medley when Phelps and Lochte pushed each other throughout.
Sure enough, Marchand has dispatched of the 4:03 easily but still hasn't broken the 1:54.
Besides, I never like El Guerrouj because I was convinced he was not legitimate. The Athens 1500 is the most sickening Olympic outcome in recent decades. He deserved that stain.
Honestly, if Koech doesn't break the world record, someone else will soon and it will probably be someone who is not close to being the best 1500m runner in history. Technological and legal chemical advances make current times incomparable to times of previous eras. This has been true in other eras as well, but those changes occurred more gradually. The changes taking place today almost mean that the times we see today are in need of a whole different lens than the times of two years ago, which need a different lens from the time two years before that. This will probably continue for the next few years and until things level out a little, times don't mean much to me. If Koech were to break the world record this year, I would probably think to myself, "This man is a serious contender to win a world championship," but I don't know if I'd go as far as to even say he's the favorite. El G, doped or not, was a dominant force. He's held the WR since 1998 and since then, it is only recently that anyone was even close. Since the start of 2024, there have been 6 different dudes under 3:28, some of whom ran their times in non-paced, more tactical (still out fast, but not time trials) races. That record is on borrowed time and the person who breaks it will probably have no legitimate claim to being the best 1500m runner ever.
So if he’s a blatant doper, he’ll be exposed through whereabouts failure, ABP or a positive test.
You are too good informed to really think that!
Name the blatant doper who hasn’t been exposed then. I’d likely argue if they’ve been at the top 3+ years, it’s unlikely their doping is really that blatant

Kipyegon, Kipchoge, Farah, Rupp, Jager etc etc etc.
Well I guess it depends on your definition of "blatant".

too much standard bible nomenclature, thanks England NOT
Phanuel is the name of an angel in the Bible, so it is you who should probably educate yourself instead of telling Kenya what to do, as if Kenya is naming the kid anyway.
It's not a standard bible name people give their kids. The standard names are things like Daniel, Rebecca, Thomas, James, Mary. There is unlikely to be another elite Phanuel Koech any time soon.
you should learn to control your emotions. Being randomly offended by things on the internet is often a sign of deep personal issues.

Also, since you are a bit on the slow side, Phanuel rhymes with Fanduel, so if you are too stupid, and it seems you might be, just called him Fanduel. But say his name you will kid. Thanks, Qfeees.
Person who comes out of nowhere is less likely to be doping than someone who has been around forever. If Nikki Hiltz or Jane Hedengren broke the mile WR this season, Hiltz is far more likely to be the doper. Other than for sentimental reasons, if my main desire is a clean record, I would much prefer Koech to break the WR than Jakob or Kerr.

I root for the underdog. I root for Koech.
You’re either an imbecile or a disgusting person. You expect me to call a society that has features like ritual cleansing, female genital mutilation, and beading ‘beautiful?’
To me, if Koech broke 3:26, especially if it were next year, it wouldn’t be much different than Kelvin Kiptum breaking 2:01. Two immensely talented athletes coming out of relative obscurity to fairly quickly become the fastest in history.
