I do of course believe the $$$ GST was dishing out was certainly a factor in the decision for Sydney to compete there, however, I genuinely think the main motivation was having meetings in their own country and own backyard was the primary factor.

Kersee has spoken numerous times about his loathing of flying, how traveling to Europe to compete is an inconvenience, and we see that in Sydney's competition schedule since he took over as coach. With 3/4 meets in the US, and 1 down the road in Jamaica, it was perfect for her. Better still, the last meet, her final primer before Nationals, was in her home town.

I am quite sure the US locations were key to Kersee committing her to the GST.

Now let's see if she races somewhere else.

Common knowledge that it’s due to financial issues

Kersee knows better than anyone that our sport in the US is down there with bowling and badminton. I say crocodile tears. He's highly critical of GST for making life more difficult but SML likely got the largest appearance fee and can earn alot by racing the Diamond League - he just doesn't want to travel. Yes it's inconvenient for the athletes but maybe they need to plan to spend the summer in Europe like the cycling racers do. There are so many meets like Continental Tour too. It would be great if GST could work but I don't see how the business model pans out with only a few thousand people showing up.
