Actually, no that isn't how it works. They will postpone the events if the "wet bulb" is over a certain mark. Anyone that wants to translate the CIF rules on this can go for it:
Prelim running events start at 5:00pm and finals 5:45pm. Field events are earlier. The state meet used to always be at Cerritos College in So Cal with better climate but schools in the north complained about always having to travel. So then around 1997 the meet alternated between Cerritos and Sacramento for awhile. Starting around 2009 they decided to meet in the middle in Clovis which is always hot. They won't cancel or postpone. .
My parents lived two blocks from a back entry that was right at the stadium/track. I walked to several state meets and professional meets, while in HS and after when visiting my family. Northern Cal might complain about travel, but the total travel they did is always dwarfed by the travel cost of the mass number for athletes from the southern half that have to go to them.
I always remember watching the girl's 4x440y in 1979. A Girl's 4x440 team was announced as Howard, Howard, Howard, and Howard. All sisters, no twins. Senior Atra 59.2, soph Tina 58.3, frosh Denean 53.7, and junior Sherri 52.0 set a National Record of 3:44.1. That will never be repeated. Four siblings, separate births, all the proper age for their class .
This post would've been better suited for Father's Day and the next episode of, "Who's Yo Daddy?".

If I remember correctly, it was 106 at the CIF State meet in 2014. My athlete had the triple jump at 1:00pm, followed by the long jump at 3:00 pm. He PR'd in the triple (2nd), but appeared more tired than usual during the Long Jump, jumped a foot and a half less than his PR and finished 7th.
The California high school track and field state prelims will be held in Clovis, CA on Friday, May 30 where there will be temperature high of 104°F. The next day when finals is supposed to be held, Clovis, CA will have a temperature high of 101°F. Given that these athletes are expected to do a lot of physical activity on these days, it is my recommendation that the state meet either be canceled or postponed to a time when temperatures don’t have a significant chance in increasing heat stroke among athletes.
If ca is like most states only lighting will cancel a state meet - perhaps you should check out the conditions at some xc meets in the ne
Some of you clearly have never been to a Junior Olympics meet where its always held someplace hotter than the sun in the peak of summer. They aren't canceling anything.

Yes I have been to Junior Olympics many many times. They have rules for these things now in California. Too many stupid football coaches pushed their players to death so they had to do something to protect the athletes from the bad coaches.
I don't think you understand that they have rules in place. It isn't about "how bad you want it", more like how are they going to adjust things to comply with the CIF rules on heat.

The Friday schedule was just "updated" this afternoon, but it still says that the running events on Friday will be starting on time at 5pm. If they are going to change the schedule, they sure are waiting until the last minute to do that.

Coachy, you're right, but people here just want to complain. They don't get the wet bulb rule.
