I don't even remember how it came up, but she said something about it and then called me a conspiracy theorist for believing Covid 19 came from the Wuhan Lab. I said it wasn't something "I believed" per se, but that the FBI, CIA, and US Department of Energy all did their own independent investigations into this and all concluded it was the most likely origin of the virus outbreak, though results were less than definitive. She got mad and more or less dismissed it as meaningless and said something indicating she didn't care what any of those reports said.
This whole thing really caught me off guard. I didn't realize people didn't know this? How are people this ignorant in 2025 when it takes less than a minute to look into stuff like this?
Also, maybe a different thread entirely, but has anyone else noticed that liberal women seem to not base any of their thinking on actual facts at all? I know this will probably anger some people, but I've historically been a left leaning moderate, and this is something I've been noticing more and more in recent years, that liberal women in particular seem to be both almost unbelievably ignorant of facts as well as totally impervious to them when deciding what to think. It's been really odd.
I mean conspiracy theory is hyperbole. That’s silly. It’s one of the biggest possible explanations which some quality supporting evidence.
I don’t think you need to go off on “liberal women” though. There are plenty of right wingers who are 100% certain COVID came from a lab and will call anyone who dares to question them a moron.
Both sides have people too caught up in the politics to appreciate nuance. I don’t see this as characteristic of any group of people specifically
America's right wing has done an especially good job of helping the world forget China's scramble to cover up how bad it really was...
They're obsessed with the lab leak story because to them it confirms some weird illuminati plot of fauci to dethrone god king Trump.
Frankly I think the truth is china themselves don't know because governments and people around the world are more alike then not and they too have choosen to just drown out the attempt to even try to linearly follow events with conspiracist nonsense as well - it was our military who leaked it on purpose / by accident / because geopolitical whatever...
The truth was quashed back in late 2019 because local officials didn't want the bad news reaching Beijing and ruining their chances at promotion forever - the doctors were silenced - wechat groups discussing it erased.
We are not masters of nature and we fail to be humble and reckon with that - the hubris of the modern world got given a bit of a nose bleed and modern society can't get the memo - somehow it had to secretly be in control all along - same overlord complex causing the Anthropocene and all the lightning bugs and insects to disappear don't look up!

I agree that nobody on earth knows the truth and at this point we will never know.
People who think there’s a big master plan are just uncomfortable with the noisy randomness that is the world.
The OP’s girl is just more stable and reasonable. A “chad” to OP’s “virgin” to use a contemporary analogy.

Which people? Which facts? Note if someone else is ignorant, that doesn't mean you are not. Ignorant simply means there is knowledge that someone doesn't know.
I suppose whether one or both of you are ignorant of something depends on what both of you really said. Which "facts" are you referring to? While it is a fact that these agencies drew conclusions, that doesn't mean their conclusions are factual.
The "lab leak" theory is not just one theory, but a collection of several conflicting theories. A lab leak can still be of animal origin, or it can be a man-made bio-weapon. The US agencies made some statements with "low confidence" because key facts are absent. They also did not provide supporting facts which were considered "classified" -- making the rest of us somewhat ignorant. Even the US agencies don't have all the facts, maybe because China was hiding them (or didn't know themselves) -- we are all somewhat ignorant about something.
I don't see any need to attack "liberal women" -- the phenomenon you describe is universal, and has to do more with education rather than political leanings.
The study you cite doesn't say it started in Wuhan market animals. What it shows is that about half a dozen types of animals there carried something close to covid, and so could theoretically have been the source. The lab leak hypothesis is the most likely one, especially when you look at the history of the lab operations and various outbreaks prior to fall of 2019.
I never said it's a fact, numbnuts. Learn how to read.
You are indeed pathetic. You never said it’s a fact, but you also said “it wasn't something "I believed" per se”, and quoted FBI, CIA, and Department of Energy to substantiate your claim. When you were called out correctly, you blamed your girlfriend as “has anyone else noticed that liberal women seem to not base any of their thinking on actual facts at all?”, and used a name “facts aren’t political” before saying, oh by the way, I never said it’s a fact.
No wonder your girlfriend despises you.
I didn't quote anything. I said the FBI, CIA, and DOE all concluded it was *likely*. Do you know what that word means?
This is exactly the sort of thing I meant when I said what I did about liberal women. You can't even read a single paragraph without projecting a bunch of your own emotions onto it. Zero ability to remain rational.
The reality is that we dont know. Why cant people never admit that something is unclear? What is clear is that democrats are sexists and racists. Dont date democrats

You actually said "all concluded it was the *most likely* origin of the virus outbreak".
What you say about "liberal women" can also be applied to conservative women, and conservative men, and just about any group you care to name. What is your motivation to single out "liberal women".
Your name says it all -- it is hard to filter out just the facts, when all of the issues are made political.

Yes. I had an acquaintance who actually, really, truly believed that there were Italian Satellites rigging voting machines.
She thought that millions and millions of people were walking into random polling places and voting for Biden telling the poll workers that they were someone else.
She believed it. She moved to my area in NY State from Texas (that explains it) as an adult.
It's best to avoid talking politics with these 304s as much as possible, especially young 20-somethings. They are in college or have recently left college, they have been listening to La La Land professors for four years+. After the smash then you can be a little bolder with your political stances.
With the current level of evidence that has come out over the last couple of years, I’d put it at 90/10 that it was a lab leak. Zoogenic origin is reaching conspiracy theory level at this point.
Everyone knows Faucci created Covid in his kitchen in Northern Virginia.
Creepy lib single cat women reflexively resort to calling people "incels" when they lose an argument. No, we're not incels, we get all the action we want with rational clear-thinking pure-blooded women. Just because we don't want anything to do with you and your ilk doesn't mean we are involuntarily celibate. I suppose if the only women left on the planet were lib dunces then yes we would become incels (willingly and happily). Good luck healing your scarred heart tissue and damaged DNA from the shots you took.

Scientists using actual evidence have it the other way around. Spy agencies without evidence and self-admitted "low confidence" are the ones thinking lab leak. The OP's "girlfriend" probably has more science education than him.

Not true! If anything it’s less likely to be lab leak than it is a zoonosis than it was 18 months ago

Don't you think intelligence agencies like the FBI and CIA have information about China and Wuhan and other things that people in the public domain do not have? Besides that, no scientific paper has said anything is conclusive either way.
The lack of critical thinking skills of people on this board is insane.

Much more likely to be propaganda or bluffing. If they had something concrete it would be a massive political victory over China to reveal it. There’s nothing.
