The NCAA does not lack talent on the women's side. High school girl's running is stronger than it has ever been, with considerable more depth than ever, and they feed directly into the NCAA. Many of the runners are student athletes who take the student part seriously and will graduate with degree from incredible institutions. Going pro is not a consideration for most of them, nor is there enough money in it to make it worthwhile. The NCAA runners are certainly not second or third tier as is stated.
Wowsers! And maybe a Tuohy fan got their feeling hurt?
“I think a Valby fan just got their feeling hurt :)“
I think you should reread the posts about Hartman and her objective.
i suggest you reread this comical thread with open eyes, in which it repeatedly attempts to infer “Hartman or some other more talented woman” will be taking down Valby’s collegiate record soon.
Don’t you think Hartman first needs to actually demonstrate she can run a faster 5k before making those claims?
Getting a record is a good think especially if you’re a fan of US running and it’s an American athlete that breaks the record. It should be celebrated, not diminished.
Well that’s great if a record is actually broken, and yet over and over on this forum, like in this very thread, Valby’s accomplishments are ‘diminished’, eh?

sure - my post was with regards to what Hartman's objective should be and frankly had nothing to do with Tuohy. Perhaps I (yes me) misread the remark about scoring 1 point in XC as a response to taking NC St 5K record. So, mea culpa.
This board seems to have an element of the "Ministry of Truth" where any accolades about any runner need to be rewritten when some new, faster runner comes along. Any record set should be celebrated as it is by definition doing something unprecedented and the fact that some later breaks it should not diminish it. So people wash away any statements of the 2023 Tuohy, and now are starting to do the same about the 2024 Valby. Who is next? Someday someone will break Hedengren's recent records. Do we erase her then too?
And as to the 10000 record which was the point of this thread, I agree the opportunities for this college year are gone. Next year there certainly could be some capable of breaking that, as well as the 3000 record, but both will need to be the right race at the right time. Kosgei might have gotten it this year but her pacing was not right. So the record stands. And hopefully when the 3000 is broken it is not on the oversized track and get the * (which seems inappropriate for a 3000).
On the contrary, I doubt that flat oversize track is faster than the Armory track.
I tend to agree, but yet, when you look at the USTFCCCA 3000 m listing the fast times run at UW this year only are shown under "Additional All Conditions". That does not feel right to me.
I had no idea how old Kosegi is. She is a freshman but is on the older end. I looked up her WA profile and she will be 21 in July. She's only about 6 months younger than Hartmann who is academically a junior.
Valby's record of 30:50.43 has a good chance of being beaten this year.
New Mexico's Pam Kosgei ran 31:58.51 at the Don Kirby meet in Albuquerque at 5120 ft elevation. That converts to 30:41.31 (at sea level) with the altitude converter that I used. Kosegi also has a 31:02.73 that she ran a day after NC State's Grace Hartman soloed to a 31:20.60.
I am assuming that the two of them will not race until the NCAAs. I believe that if the weather is good that they will push each other and that one or both can beat the record.
She abruptly just closed her Instagram. What is going on here?

What’s your point?
A lot of the African runners tend to be on the older end in terms of their eligibility. That is my point. Capisce?
