He did, and Nikki Hiltz just replied, and said it was the first thing she thought of when she saw the time. They’re all gonna make Shelby uncomfortable
Shelby beat Emily Mackay in the 3000 @ USAs.
Now, Mackay runs a transcendent-for-her 14:45/5000 despite being a 1500/800 mid-d specialist through last year.
Shelby's the one putting in 85-mile weeks, per her recent interviews. So, have to believe her sweet spot for the moment is the 5000. Fully expect Shelby to run 14:40 or under when she gives the 5000 her first shot. Unlikely anyone in the US outside of Cranny will be able to be stay close to her.
Meanwhile, Shelby's 1500 times will continue to creep closer to her still-standing 3:54.99 AR from 2019. And, her racing tactics will eventually become spot on -- don't expect to see any more messy races from her as we saw in the 1500 final @ Ocean Breeze last weekend.
So, enjoy dunking on Shelby now while she's still rounding into racing shape after 4 years in purgatory. ,
As much as I want to see MacLean, MacKay, Johnson, Cranny, ESP when she returns, continue to improve and get closer to Kipyegon as world-class milers, have a pretty shrewd hunch it will be Houlihan who, within a few months, will be making everyone else she races against at any distance feel uncomfortable.
