Don´t you read your posts before pressing the reply button? ..................opening 800m LAP!? not even 52!? Do you mean 1:52?
Of course his WR attempt should be in a race paced ideally to 1100m. In the Olympic 1500m final he lost at least 2 sec compared to a paced DL race where he only has to frontrun the last 400-500m.
And as stated by another poster: He shouldn´t kick in a WR race but hold a high even pace possibly with a slight negative split.
Are you on left end of the bell curve ? , I said his opening lap on the 800, an event which is run at a faster pace, is not even 52
OK it is your language that is unclear! You didn´t write "his opening lap on the 800".
To write about what he is doing in the 800m is history since he haven´t run it seriously since he was 19. Could he have improved a bit (also in the 800m) in the meantime?
But back to the substance: You will hopefully learn soon enough that he only needs to improve a bit aerobically to get the 1500m WR.
Great read and an interesting take on how the sport can be grown beyond just the Olympics. It is a shame that indoors continues to be seen as a sideshow to outdoors, but he has a point that it doesn't have to always be that way.
I'm not convinced that road running, especially in its current form, is inherently any more exciting than indoor track or even XC. It's just a matter of the sport itself and the athletes themselves choosing to give it importance.
I hope that Jake manages to be a contender somehow this year, he's just very a likeable athlete and easy to root for all around.
Indoor track is by far better for the viewer than outdoor track cross country and road running. Indoor track is far ahead of outoor track and road running is far behind cross country.
The first half of the race took him 27:27 (10k); the second (11k) took him 36 minutes. Hobby jogger pace. If he wasn't walking he was close to it.
32:13 10k pace. In New Zealand that's almost elite.
An average male hobby jogger couldn't follow that pace for 3k.
Is there any running related subject you have just a little bit of knowledge?
You're trying to say you're not a hobby jogger. You are. And so, apparently, is Jakob, when it comes to second half of a HM. The leaders put over a mile on Jakob in the second half of the race.

He walked a few metres. You didn't even watch the race, so you wouldn't know. Liar.

Precisely my darling Armstrong!!!!!! How does a world class elite athlete take 36minutes to run 11km when my boy Paul Tergat took 33:44 to run 12.02km in one of the 96 edition of world cross country on grass/sand/mud in Stellenbosch South Africa in crappy shoes and even crappier other technology albeit no 3G/4G/5G mobile telecommunications in the air????????????????????????
How sir??????? Please really!!!!!! Clearly, there is hidden RF burden/load on Jakob's young body to require an extra 3+ minutes to run a shorter by 1km course on a 3 times more difficult terrain ain't it sir?????????
The answers are so damn obvious I'm dying just to explain it to you folks!!!

It's all talk but I'm also equally good as anybody at talking. What makes you think your talk is better than mine????? My talk says no, never, forever!!!! The record of Hicham El King Love Guerrouj stays for an eternity!!!!!!!!!! I need it to stay for eternity because EL King represents everything I ever represented with the exception of Christianity as he is Muslim!!!!!!!!! El King represents all the values and principles I die for you feelin me?????? His legs, his feet, his engine, his body, his hair follicles, his everything is trademark property alright, absolutely preserved like a statue!!!!!!! Generations will whisper his name and gasp "OMG, he was the greatest ever ever ever......." and bow their heads in worship!!!!!
El King lives in my very soul, my blood, he gives me hope and inspiration, he validates and proves my anthropogenic RF biological theory absolutely right, actually he already does as his record survives 25 years!!! You might not know this, but I wake up 5 days out of 7 thinking of El King in my head, that's how much I WANT HIM!!!!!!
Without El King as the 1500m WR holder, it's like a part of my soul is incomplete and unconsummated you feelin me sir????? I can't imagine my soul accepting the hippy and morally less valuable Jakob into it's orbit, really!!!!!!

Yeah man darling, I'm truly so ashamed of Jakob losing a mile in the 2nd half of a race he claimed or at least gave the vibe he was going to go very close to the WR, or get the WR outright, or AT LEAST WIN AND OUTSPRINT ALL THOSE STRAGGLERS!!!!! Sebastian Sawe is supposed to be absolute pawn for Jakob's caliber even in a half marathon but alas it was not to be really!!!!!!!!!! I'm so sorry really................
Nonsense, that is so incorrect sir!!!!!!! Cross country is the greatest experience for the spectators and athletes alike. It's constant emotional hysteria alternating between intervals of unbridled delirium every step of the race you feelin me????? Outdoor track is not like this. It's boring watching a 10k or 5k on a track.

Basically Jakob was interspersing 20-40 meters of walking bouts with 3:06 per km running bouts from half way till the end. It's the walking that counts against him and not the 3:06 per km running you feelin me sir??????? It's the walking that he needs to be 'jailed' for as it's very egregious behavior from him alright!!!!!!! It's unhinged!!!!

As I already mentioned sir, your statement agitates me so bad you feelin me????? The 1500m of my one true king El Guerrouj shall never ever ever be broken by any mortal walking this earth. It's a record that NEEDS TO, BY NECESSITY, stand the test of time and be timeless, be outside space and time, be eternal like a God or Godly example because of the amount of moral credibility and substance engendered inside this record!!!!!
I don't want the record to stand, I NEED IT TO!!!!! It's an order, an imperative alright!!!! This man is an angel period!!!!
