What's the big deal? With his credentials this should be another day in the office, or the idiom of your choosing. Or, to be more precise, like having a snack and a cup of coffee. Yum yum yum.
it's a big deal bc it's a workout you would never be able to touch with a ten foot pole
I don’t understand the perpetual condemnation and criticism. First of all, Grant has run 12:46 and 26:33. Secondly, he’s a double Olympic bronze medalist, and he *almost* won silver in both events. So very close to the best runner in the world on the day. Thirdly, these new shoes allow for faster repetitions and faster recovery. I know that’s not a popular opinion on the boards, but it’s the truth. So the reps are just going to be faster. Lastly, Grant’s form looks fine. Is it the purest, cleanest form I’ve ever seen? No, he’s a bit too upright, but he’s pretty relaxed the entire time, not squeezing his shoulders in, not flailing. It didn’t really look like he was pressing until the end of that last 1600.
Gordon Mack’s departure from Flotrack is when that platform went down hill. He was entertaining and a very good track analyst.
Grant looks to be in fine form. Best to him in 2025.
It is no wonder why, Grant and his coach don’t share training very often due to the fools who post negative propaganda. Stay humble, bitterness keeps one from flying.
Thank you guys for this “rare” glimpse of greatness.
I don't understand your first point? Why do you say this was "run a year ago"? Did it say something in the video? I didn't watch the whole thing, so I could be wrong, but was only posted 4 hours ago (on 1/28), right?
Also, for people who don't have time to watch the whole video, here is the workout
2000m (hard effort) in 5:08
4x800m (mild effort) in 2:06, 2:09, 2:08, 2:08
1600m (hard effort) in 4:00
p.s. He had "full recovery" of 5-8 minute rest between sets
Feels like Nico Young did a workout somewhat like this that Gordon also filmed. Impressive stuff.

He was so far away from 1st in the 5000. No shot he'd win at all.

" Feels like"?
Did "Nico Young (do) a workout somewhat like this that Gordon also filmed" or not? Are you trying to say " If I recall correctly..." or maybe " I think I remember seeing..." ?
The duration of combustion of their peaks are shorter and less broad. Grant just had a down year in 2023 and then an up in 2024. He is slated for a down in 2025. Watch and see.
That is interesting. I do agree with you that the fact that Grant is "always in shape" is on one hand awesome but, as you pointed out, also exhausting. Being in 7:25 3000m shape and then 12:50 5000m shape and 26:40 10km shape all the time can't be easy on the body. But he seems to pull it off, so what do I know.
Where you and I disagree is in how we think he does this. I don't think he is doping.
But yes, it seems as if he doesn't really have a true "peak" but rather just maintains his (awesome) fitness all year round. Maybe he takes a big break in the Fall?
I should wait to read the rest of the thread to comment, but I've gotta get to work. Remember how Grant's season ended last year? Being that fit, for that long, definitely did take a toll on him last year. But he held it exactly as long as he needed.

I don’t think I was ever suggesting he’d win it all? I merely pointed out that he was essentially two photo finishes away from double silver, with first not that far ahead. Grant Fisher is one of the best runners in the world; therefore, this workout should surprise nobody. Especially if that last 1600 was basically 3000 pace.

Stop the presses! Isnt that what I said basically? Whats with your attitude? Fisher is doing stuff that YOU are impressed with (so am i) but the reality is he so good that its another day at the office. My point is have some perspective.. Settle down. Quit trying to start fights. You're looking for animus where there is none.

you would do that workout in...5:40, then the 800s in 2:14-2:12, then the last mile in 4:16. That's why it's a big deal, because that is WORLDS away from what Grant just did

Silesia. 15th place. 7:49 in the 3000
You don’t think Fisher backed off a bit after The 10 in March? Regardless, he was at his absolute peak for the Olympics.
At the beginning of the video, his coach said, "Honestly, this workout, it's the only time we've done it all year."
Grant doesn’t have the look in his eye nor the form alignment in his limbs to be a 26:xx and 12:xx athlete cleanest. He fails every litmus test of such an athlete. Paul chelimo and Bernard lagat are true world class athletes as they present to my eyes both the look of one and the physical formation and alignment as well.
It really is very easy to tell the real clean good athlete from the real dirty doped one.
Except Grant is the only one of those three you can be sure is clean and has always been clean.
On the first day of a new academic year, a freshman approaches a senior and asks ' hey, excuse me, do you know where the freshman dorms are at?' To which the senior responds, ' at Princeton, we don't and a sentence with a preposition'. The freshman tries again: 'excuse me, do you know where the freshman dorms are at, a**hole?'
Just to clear this up. You should not feel bad about ending a sentence with a preposition if the rest of the sentence is implied. For example:
Grant said, "I really like where I am at [in my training]." The part in the brackets was implied. That sentence is perfectly fine because we all know what was left unsaid.
The faux-freshman at Yale's sentence is wrong because the "at" is just completely unnecessary. "Do you know where the dorms are at?" is indeed wrong. The "at" is just totally unneeded. Why not just say, "Excuse me, do you know where the freshman dorms are?"
p.s. We also no longer have a functional dative case in English, so we are also allowed to say, "Who were you talking to?" since "To whom were you talking?" is too pretentious. NOBODY talks like that anymore, so we've had to adjust our norms around that sentence structure. Luckily, language is not set in stone.
idk how I didn't know you until you popped up in the year end rankings list but you are like my new favorite poster what the heck
