I’m more and more intrigued by the rumor MLS may help design the d1 soccer model. How could track/XC benefit from a similar partnership, setting aside whether you like current leadership.
A few ideas:
- Lose the roster cap rule, but leave the roster cap on how many athletes can be on scholarship and compete for the team. If Oklahoma State has 20 kids who want to be trained by the coaches and get only non financial or private NIL support, why not let them?
- Move D1 competitions to age brackets. U20, U22, and Open.
- Let d1 athletes compete wearing school or sponsor uniforms at non collegiate events. Why not let Corrigan go run in a pro event for BYU or his sponsor?
- Intentionally coordinate high school national meets, collegiate meets, and national and international meets to not conflict for fans. Try with coordinated leadership to develop the pipeline of fans who watch athletes all the way. Catch the HS athletes’ attention and get them to keep watching as they age with coordinated marketing.
