Some surveys show that 80% support eliminating it. And Trump won which means the majority of people support his policies. Do you understand that you are in the minority?
"Some surveys" = Trump talk. Any survey that shows 80% favor it was a sample of people of which most of them think that the change means the opposite of what it actually means. The majority of people support many of his policies, but not necessarily this one, especially if they actually understood it.

Get ready to run after work in the dark more often! Because...
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.
This would suck. It needs to be the other way around. Get rid of the "standard" time. Just stop with the getting dark before we even get out of work...
Who thought it would be a good idea to make the clocks go back at the exact time of the year when the days are already getting too short!
So as November darkness descends on us, some idiots get happy to make it even worse by rolling back the clock an extra hour. Who is happy that it gets dark at 4pm? That is moronic.
Exactly, we need DST all year round. Dark afternoons are far more depressing than early mornings darker for longer. Dark early mornings hold the optimism of oncoming light but dark afternoons bring the entirety of your being down.
Those morons in question appear to be people who think we use less power or reduce road accidents with DT, which is idiotic. The only weak but somewhat plausible argument I’ve heard is kids have to board the school bus in the dark in the morning, but it’s far from clear that that increases kids getting run over by reckless drivers who can’t see in the dark.
I also wouldn’t mind splitting the difference between DT and DST and keeping it same all year round coz even a half hour more sunlight in the afternoon is good, and not having the sudden change is good.
Seems like one complaint people in the northeast had in 1974 with year-round DST was that some places didn’t get light till 8:30am or even later. The latest official sunrise time in my NE location is 7:15am with DT and it takes some more time after sunrise for it to be fully daylight, so that’s plausible. But splitting the difference can’t be that bad.
Daylight savings sucks and most Americans don't like it...
You are literally getting it backwards. Americans don't want STANDARD time. The idea that the sun should come up a 4:01 in the Summer and set at 8:01 is idiotic. And in the Winter the idea that the sun comes up "earlier" at 7:30 and sets at 3:30 is also idiotic. That, what I just described, is STANDARD time, which all normal humans hate (unless they like to go to be at 8:30pm).
Keep DST so we have some daylight in the afternoon (to run or do something after work) but get rid of the stupid changing back and forth process...

No, YOU'RE WRONG! It literally makes zero sense for the sun to not be closest to directly overhead at noon.
Here it is explained for people who don't know the difference:
[Trump] supports a permanent Standard Time, keeping the clocks as they are from November to March year-round. This would lead to earlier sunrises and earlier sunsets – leaving more light in the morning and less in the evening. This approach is supported by [some] medical groups and professionals who say it most closely aligns with the body’s natural circadian rhythm [and is especially good for farmers and people who own bakeries].
Others advocate for a permanent Daylight Saving Time. The sun would rise and set later, giving people less daylight in the morning but more in the evening. This approach is often supported by businesses and organizations that want people to have enough daylight left after work or school to be out and about and participating in the economy, and by those who [are active after work, such as athletes and runners].

Sorry. You are right about that. But then we would all have to adapt to getting up at 4am and going to bed at 9pm. That is fine, if you can do it. I agree with you.
The problem is, work and school won't start at 7am and get out at 3pm. If they did, this would be fine. But they won't. That is why we think it is wrong to make it get dark right when sports practice starts each day (for our kids) and right when we go running after work.
You are right about the "sun" but I care more about when all the sports leagues and cross country races and practices are held (4pm). If it is dark at 4pm, then this sucks. We all hate that because we are runners (on this board).
The easiest way to figure this out is to ask people, "do you want an extra hour of daylight before work or after work?" That is the only way to phrase this question that people will understand...

You do understand that in some places kids walk to school instead of riding the bus? That is the concern that some parents have about the later sunrise.
If I had my pick I would change to Daylight Savings Time in March, then we would never change times again. That is my first choice.
My second choice is that we remain on Standard Time and never change again.
I do not think it is acceptable to change the clocks ever again. If your industry (schools, construction work, etc) need extra day light hours or whatever, then YOU CHANGE THE HOURS FOR THOSE JOBS you do not change the clocks for everyone in the USA.
So if schools are worried about kids waiting at the bus in the dark, adjust the hours of the school, switch times during the Winter. Have "Winter Hours" and run with that.
My main beef with DST is that it lasts too long in the fall. It should start three months after the winter solstice (mid-March, roughly when it currently does) and end three months before the winter solstice (mid-September, six weeks or so earlier than it currently does). DST in October makes it way too dark in the morning.
We should move the clocks up 30 minutes from standard time (30 minutes behind DST)... and call it TRUMP TIME....
No, 45 or 47 minutes. Your choice.
Trump's next post will be about carving himself into Mount Rushmore. It will cost $100s of billions. It will also required him to hire undocumented workers who can do the job at the lowest price.

You're stupid or you're lying. There is nowhere in the contiguous USA that sees "dark" at 4 pm or even 5 in October or March.

Winter solstice occurs in December (shortest daylight). In mid-March occurs an equinox (equal day and night hours). The actual hours varies by north and south latitude. Time zones muck that up.

The Chinese solution would be better. You stop caring about time. Your work starts a X and ends at Y. Every phone call and meeting are schedules based on when someone else is available. A company in the East knowns that one in the West starts at a certain time and sets up a meeting (no time zone math is involved). The U.S. does the same thing, but Americans are haven't figured it out yet.
Trump is being the same klown he has always been. He tossed out the Time Zone thing to divert his followers from his not following through to cancel high prices, to deport everyone, to shove his nominees through, and imposing tariffs. Trumpanzees have fallen for the diversionary ruse like they always do.
Most of the Trump supporters in this thread don’t even know which is Daylight Savings Time and which is Standard Time. They have TDS so they just assume it is a good thing.
