Given his success this past Fall, it is safe to say that Nick has learned from his mistakes early in Mo's career in over racing him during Indoor meets and trying to over coach him. I don't think he'll ever lose to another D3 runner under the 10K distance.
Indoor will be interesting, because so many schools start classes and practices later in January and most of the Ole distance crew will be abroad. Add Lars back to the mix and the usual Johnny disdain for Indoor and you get a recipe for intrigue.
We all know Power tries to hype up his early season 5K, but will we see any teams step up to race fast DMRs? Or will everyone try to run fast after conference?
Wondering if Bati’s second place at nationals will earn Nick the budget to take him to one of the bigger races at BU or the armory or wherever to chase a qualifying time.
He’s shown he can do well in cross, and he’s won from the front or in a slower track race, but he still hasn’t really put together a great ‘time trial’ on the track that really is needed to make nats.
He won’t need to travel. If he decides to take track seriously, which I think he will after his XC season I expect him to let the Oles go out hard and he’ll lap then at least once. I don’t think anyone has ever qualified for nationals doing the 5K/3K double at the MIAC championship. That would be quite the flex.
They host this week with Fast Finish. Maybe they were just practicing.
Looks like Mac, Gustavus, and Carleton all heading to Olaf. For being such “crappy” hosts seems like a lot of MIAC schools are going to their meets this year. Hmm.
A casual Mile/3K double at altitude of 4:10/8:27 for Bocovich converts to something stupidly fast. He has gotten so much faster since leaving Northfield.
Clear upgrade in coaching to have such significant PR's. His mile PR before was 4:42 which says a lot.
Those times convert to 4:04 and 8:13. His strava said the 3K was a "workout." Seems possible that sub 8 could be coming. He'll need that to relevant at the national level.
Power seeding Turlington .14 faster than Bati for his 5K is a weird flex.
Anyone think Lars beats them both? Will Gabe challenge them?
Mo runs sub 14 if/when he figures out track time trials. He’s learned to be a racer and a solo runner, but still no history with track time trial races.

Typical Power. He’s all about the gamesmanship. I can’t wait to see Mo take the Indoor MIAC 5K record and outdoor 10K records from him. Then what will he have to say to recruits? I know nothing will make Nick happier than going to Northfield and setting a facility record and putting Power in his place
Mo was second in the country and is a junior. He beat multiple sub 14 men in cross that he hadn’t beat before. But he also failed at racing Indoor last year and I’m sure he’s looking forward to making that right.

It’s almost pathological. There is something deeply wrong with that.
Super confused, is all the ‘Power’ talk like some bit just to build him up more?
Honestly, I don’t get it. All the things people claim are provably false. Like Turlington and Skemp are still running for Olaf and not Stout or the U or whatever. So when people say ‘Power sucks so bad Skemp and Turlington are leaving’ but they stay is that like some weird flex?
As a an Ole grad I don’t think the anti Power campaign is trying to give him props. He unabashedly promoted his athlete and himself over others in the MIAC, so the critics (including some former Oles) love to stir things up. His personality and interactions with other MIAC coaches doesn’t always help.
I also didn’t realize Turlington had run that fast or that close to Bati’s PR, so I understand why some thought it was a made up time. Despite his other flaws, Power doesn’t usually overseed.
I for one, am looking forward to the 5K’s Friday. I’m hoping they’ll livestream it.
Can we talk about the actual races and athletes now? So many teams open their season this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing double digit hurdlers under 8.7 and some massive weight throws by the Scholastica crew.
As mentioned, the 5K races will be exciting for both genders. I'm curious what paces the pacers are instructed to hit. I'd think low 14:20's and sub 17 pace. Will Hoottie open with the 5K? What sort of track shape is Lelinga in? Will McKee/Edwards follow a strong Fall and open with 5K PR's?
The mile also looks really good at Olaf with Gabe, Coffey, and Hartney. If Smith and Breuer hop in, that could be a fun one.
