Senior year of track, I tripled in the 4x800, 1600, and the 3200 at conference (simply because my school didn't have a lot of depth in distance runners). The 1600 rolls around, and on paper I had the fastest PR (4:30). The gun goes off, and a competitor who ran around 4:38ish sprinted to the front, which was usually his strategy as a primarily 800 runner. We closed the first lap in 1:02. I drafted off him until the final lap, and I started making my move with around 450 to go. I tried to pass him on the outside so I wouldn't have to worry about the curve, and he moves to the outside as well. I didn't think much of it, so I moved to the inside to try to pass again. He moves back inside, starts chicken-winging, and nearly knocked me off the track. I was getting annoyed, so I said "screw it" and tried to pass on the curve. He moves back outside, forcing me into lane 5 into some runners who we were lapping. We pass his coach side by side, and I hear the coach say "rough him up." The other runner starts elbowing me and changed his stride to spike me. I was done with this crap, so I kicked earlier than I usually would just to get space. I ended up winning the race by 8 seconds (over the last 200 meters). When he crossed the line, he started cursing me out and slapped me. He got DQed for that, and ultimately was banned for the rest of the season.
