Midwest boys are way down this year. There should not be any at large berths for the midwest boys this year. This might be the weakest the region has ever been.
Before the season started, I thought Plainfield South would redeem themselves after missing NXN by 1 point last year. Instead, they took 7th.
Plainfield North lost 2 seniors, and this year their 5th man was pretty far back.
Rock Bridge returned their 2-6 from last year when they placed 4th, and this year they weren’t even in the championship race
I don't think Rock Bridge even tried to get into the Championship. They didn't register a full team. They weren't as strong on the back end this year as last even with those guys returning.
Just looking at the MO schools, this year's Rockhurst was obviously significantly better this year than Rock Bridge. For most of the season, SLUH this year was a pretty close match to Rock Bridge last year, although SLUH ran a lot better at state than at Nike (their #4 from state was #7 at Nike).
I think Austin Vandegrift definitely has a good chance for a bid. Better than Rocky / Plainfield North / Heartland / NY teams at least. They've been ranked in the top 10 nationally for a large portion of the season
Southwest will take two. Vandegrift will get one. So one spot left, and I’m guessing it will go to Jesuit LA or a California team.
Sorry Rocky. Maybe go beat an AQ.
Hold your horses. Taylorsville just got 4th in the Southwest. The only teams that Rocky has lost to this year are CDA, Jesuit OR, Herriman, and Taylorsville. The first 3 autoqualified. And Taylorsville in going to be getting an at-large.
I wouldn't call Rocky not getting an at-large a done deal yet...

Agreed. That is the exact result that CDA (and Crater) needed to happen to hope to make it in.

Unfortunately for Crater it seems like their odds, which we all knew were very bad, are still looking pretty bad. I wouldn't put it over 15%.
I still don't think Rocky will get one, but Taylorsville getting 4th takes their odds in my mind from like 10% back to around 40%, where they were before NXR South.
That being said, the committee has suprised before, and it's a pretty closed off process, so anything could happen. Taylorsville was far enough back at NXR Southwest that I could even see a world where Southwest only gets 1 at-large (even though that would be the wrong call obviously)

Taylorsville beat Rocky by over 60 points and was 100 points out of third at NXR SW but only 14 points out of 7th. They were closer to Herriman at NXR SW than they were at Firman, where they were 11 seconds up on Rocky. Taylorsville is showing they are getting better.
Rocky STILL didn’t run as fast at NXR as Taylorsville did at Firman despite it being their third attempt at the course in much better weather, and only 6 seconds faster than they did at Firman on average time.
Rocky would have been 7th-9th at NXR SW. Vandegrift gets one, then it will be whoever is the third CA team.

Why should a CA team get one?
Also how is Great Oak looking, they were beaten by Rocky at Firman. If they win or get 2nd in CA, that shifts things

Great Oak was missing Weston Brown at Firman. That’s a 70 point swing at a minimum. They beat Rocky at full strength at Firman.

Really shows how little you know - NXR northwest always runs slower than firman and the Idaho state meet when it is hosted there. Usually 10-15 seconds.
rocky’s #1 and #5 had subpar races which is what will probably cost them the at large bid.
For Rocky Mountain, let’s not pretend that Rocky Mountain doesn’t have a huge advantage against the sea level teams that have to race at 2600 ft altitude
