But schools that are focused on sprints will now have to cut the track roster by eliminating distance spots. There is absolutely a net loss for track and cross country in the NCAA. Michigan has 29 on cross roster and 52 on track roster.
Well this settlement is supposed become finalized on April 7, the same day as the NCAA tournament. I wonder if there is anything that can hold it up? I know there are some groups fighting this.
Also, I wonder WHEN the roster limits will go into effect? The NCAA T&F championships are in early June. So maybe the limits for track go into effect immediately thereafter. So maybe a team like Michigan wont be forced to cut until June since some of the XC athletes probably run track

use your noodle. at some level this remains about education. they are not tossing this year's kids out on their ear mid-sport or mid-semester. indoor starts fall then crosses semesters so they are already committed. this'll come in during a summer, 2025 or 2026.
to me the fairest way to do it is you tell the kids now they are getting cut in the future, but the cuts happen next summer. kind of like when a program closes.
i think it's cruel to do the roster limits without stair stepping the numbers down. this is supposed to be about educations and not baby professionalism. they should be doing stuff where kids don't have to switch schools or the limits come down in more gradual fashion.
way this looks like it's gonna be now, rapid change, body limits, on off switch stuff, is sheer carnage contrary to the educational mission.

True, but that's not the subject I was addressing. I was merely addressing what distance centric programs will do.

or you stair step the numbers down over time.
Tell this to the kids at Colorado, who were cut in August '24, too late to change schools ... and long before House settlement will even be agreed.
Life is Tough kiddo... Just like the real world. The admin are saying to prep the kids that may be affected now that it may happen to give them a heads up of the possibility. Cuts will be made this summer after season.
