Look if you can get into one of the top academic D1 or D3 schools then by all means do it even at the price. But only about 10% of the population can. And a good portion of the 90% of the rest, including those of us who went to D2 schools, have done pretty damned well for ourselves. And once you strip away the 100 or so top rated schools there's very little difference especially for he student who applies themselves.A
I'm in my 60's and my D2 acquaintances include:
Successful business owners (several having a lucrative sale to PE firms recently)
Corporate VPs including Fortune 500 companies
Partners in large accounting firms (2 of whom started at "Big 8" firms)
Attorney
Vice Admiral Navy
Artists
PR executives
Countless salespeople - And don't scoff at sales. I can assure you that the highest paid employees in most firms are often the successful salespeople.
Most of us earned well into 6 figures and some over 7 and are financially independent by late 50s early 60s. Own nice big homes and often a beach, FL or mountain home and sent our kids to college without them bearing the cost. My daughter also attended a D2 school for communications and was in a top 5 market in just a few years with graduates of more prestigious schools answering to her. And her classmates went on to success as well including grad/law/medical school acceptance to some those top 100 schools everyone cites.
Over the years I've hired employees from no name to brand name and I can tell you that the brand named ones are not nearly the most reliable.
