Apparently your last name needs to start with the letter K in order to set the 1/2 marathon WR. Who's next?
Isn't Kip- the equivalent of "son of so and so" in Kenyan culture?
Sort of like Mc- or -son/-sen in our culture? I think the Russians use -ov/-ova to denote "son of" or "daughter of." Same kind of thing, right?
But I have no idea about Ethiopian naming systems.
Edit: I looked it up to be sure...
In Kenya, the prefix "Kip" is commonly used among the Kalenjin people, an ethnic group primarily found in the Rift Valley region. "Kip" means "son of" or "child of" in the Kalenjin language. It is often used to denote lineage or ancestry.
For example, a name like "Kipchoge" would mean "son of Choge." This naming convention reflects the importance of family and heritage in Kalenjin culture. Other variations of this prefix include "Chep" for daughters or females, as in "Chepchumba," meaning "daughter of Chumba."

Said in the other thread… most deserving runner imo. Pushes the paces. As much as I am a fan of Cheptegei he clearly races to win/get a certain goal (WR) and doesn’t race as fearlessly as Yomif on the circuit.
Couldn't agree more with this and the others who have said as much. Kejelcha is as fast as anyone. He's the common denominator in pretty much every great distance race. And he never catches a break--great to see it come together.
Kejelcha is one of my favorite athletes. I sympathize with his champ racing problems(though I have never had them myself) and love his range and grit. His range is superhuman. How the hell does he have the indoor mile record AND now the Half record(unofficial). Also what the hell were those pacers. I could have (barely) last that far. Those guys left at like 10 minutes.
I’m only lightly teasing you here, I promise, but we all know your best times would be consisted much worse “champ racing problems” than what Kejelcha has for the level he races at.
I will not say this is irrelevant but it is over 5.5 years ago on a super fast indoor track, so it doesn’t speak much to what he can do now, and my guess is about 3:33 or so.
In this part of his career, 3:33 for the Mile seems to be too fast.

Well the deal is that Yomif ran 7:23 last year and 12:38 this year. Can he do that with slower than 3:33 1500m ability? I don’t know but I doubt it.

lol yes I’m guessing the stakes which Yomif races are slightly higher than your championship experiences
Kejelcha is a perfect human specimen for foot racing. He sort of brings an ostrich effect as his bio height is listed at only 6-1 but on raceday he has a 6-3 /6-4 presence on his toes.
Maybe that 6-1 measure is flat footed?
Kejelcha is being recognized for his range. This is true but he, at such a high level, has endured somewhat of a slump in the past 12 - 36 months. On physical talent alone -- which is other worldly -- he makes the Olympic finals but was missing the motivation part to some extent and seemed to only be going "through the motions" as the American idiom suggests in this recent time period. This win and world record is something to be excited about because Kejelcha will be excited again and bring that new edge to his next races.
there goes the theory tall men can't run distances
due to heat dispersion nonsense, which is true and false at the same time
