LOL then clearly Radcliffe was doping too. Among quite a few others.
Yes
Even with all the arguments/stats used by that South African sports scientist (name escapes me- even has a podcast) to prove radcliffe’s non-natural physiology, I refused to believe it. However, when Paula’s husband started coaching Farah and participating in his far flung Ethiopian camps I rethought everything. When I saw Mr. Paula sitting with his athlete Nageye and Abdi bile (Jama Aden’s right hand man) at the world championships in Eugene, it kind of all started to make sense.
How can anyone believe that Amby Burfoot is legitimate? If you Google "Amby Burfoot Boston Marathon" almost every entry returned from a Runner's World article doesn't have his time listed (2:22:17). Why are they trying to hide the time? That's important isn't it?
A woman is as fast as American marathon “hero’s”. This especially rubs the old dudes the wrong way. Amby was proud of his 2:14 but that’s not even a good chick time lol
Boooring poorly written article with useless generalities like
1. She should not have run a negative split HE DOESNT SAY THAT
2. An athlete can't peak twice HE DOESN'T SAY THAT
3. The womens record should always be 10% slower than the mens record HE DOESN'T SAY THAT
4. Her progression was not gradual enough HE DOESN'T SAY THAT
blah blah blah
If these are her arguments then should question 50% of track athletes
You are stupidly being disengenuous when anyone can actually read what he said.
10% differential. Yes, "all the male/female diferentials are 10% to 11%, historically even small variations atre red flags. Her differential is 7.75%"
Negative split. She ran a positive split. He is right in that if you run at your HM limit, which she did, then you will blow up more than the positive 1 min she did. Assefa had a negative split, indicative of her 'more conservative' start.
Progression: She has had a 15 marathon progression since 2017 with a PB of 2:14:18 two years ago. She has just knocked 4:22 off that in one go. You do not usually do that at that stage of your career, name examples.
etc etc...do not lie about something especially when it is clear everybody else can read what was written, and also come to the same conclusions
Where was he when Paula Radcliffe suddenly ran 2:15, when she's supposed to run 2:17-18 based on her PRs? And why was he using D'AMATO as an example? She has exactly the same red flag: knocking more than 3 mins off her PB and breaking the AR in one year at 37.
I think something that definitely needs to be tabled in this discussion is whether or not a pass is given to those that only break the rules up to “a certain level”.
We know there is a (somewhat nebulous) ‘grey area’ threshold, below which is not cheating, and above that threshold crosses in over to breaking the rules. An example would be L-carnitine infusions, where in excess amounts the rules are broken. Is someone that does that any less of a cheater than someone who uses EPO, growth hormone, or steroids?

The L-carnitine infraction is just an example of something where people make judgements in their minds as to what is an is not full-on “cheating”. Steroids, to some degree, may fall into that category.

Another thing to consider is whether an athlete is connected enough with financial entities capable of blood testing and blood packing (stored refrigeration) means, involving medical aid (a doctor). Blood packing may be as effective, or more effective (if done correctly) than EPO, but because it uses the athlete’s own blood, may be justified as less cheating than someone using EPO.

And to add to this, is the whole Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) rabbit-hole, which is a loop-whole that provides a ‘legal’ use of a PED.
BTW: they should both disclose their hematocrit levels post race. They should also freeze their blood samples and retest them when they find a proper test for the stuff which is now available
We need to give up on anti-performance-maximizing. It's a dumb ethos to tout; holding oneself back when we all appreciate the fruits of hard work and competitive spirit
it's time to move away from being performance enhancement shy.
We can still make fun of steroid users. Make fun of people pinning their a**es. But we can also appreciate and accept that it happens so radically that we can turn the industry into one of honesty
Yes because look how well the old E bloc athletes are doing. Or the 1990s EPO users who are still wearing braces. Or Flo-Jo who died when she was like 30 because she has juiced to much. Or if we want specific drugs, GW1515 which a hser was taking causes Cancer. There is a reason the Enhanced Games were condemned for risks to athletes health
I am unclear why she is being maligned so much more than anyone else. At that level, they are all on drugs. Yes, Burfoot is outraged, but why is he emphasizing that women deserve better? Maybe the running community as a whole? I am a woman and feel Ruth C. is being told she shined too bright, which is far more problematic to me (^^^as a woman…) than the effect of her performance on women’s running. Is her record unfair to the pro women who are not doping? YES. Is she hurting “women’s running”? Not any more than anyone else’s enhanced performances, of which there are many.
"I am unclear why she is being maligned so much more than anyone else."
This is the greatest running feat of all time that is why. This is more of an outlier than Bolt, Kipchoge, Kiptum, and i'd put it right above FloJo. It's so easy to put a finger on as doped performance that more people are going to be loud about it.
"At that level, they are all on drugs"
I don't understand why people say this as if it's a defense. You ask why are people outraged, and then follow up with the answer. We know they are all on drug, and it frustrating to see it happen over and over again. Do you expect us to just celebrate a drugged performance? Should we give lance his Tours back? No. We want the sport to be better so we are going to call it out.
I’d say this record is better than FloJo’s 100 and 200 or Marita Koch’s 400 or Kratochvílová‘s 800 or even Wang Junxia’s 3000. So, yeah, a little suspicious!
