I thought the course wasn't record eligible. The start-finish separation is pretty large, and it might be net downhill as well. Could be wrong--can't find a source saying either way!
Absolutely noneligible. Start and finish are nearly 8 miles apart. Maximum they can be is only 10% of the race distance or 1 mile.
Right thought, wrong percentage. I am pretty sure the rules say the start line and finish line can be no more than 50% of the race distance apart and there must be no more than a 1m elevation drop per kilometer of race distance. In this case, the finish must be within 5 miles of the start (it isn't) and can't drop more than 16m from start to finish. The marathon course, however, is a record eligible course but is too hilly to set any records.
It’s third tier. Houston is second tier. IAAF gold.
How many marathons in the US have a 10th place finishing time faster than 2:16??? Or a 4th place finishing time of 2:10? This was a very competitive race. Don't compare it to the past few years, they beefed up the prize money this year with $10k to the winner and additional American/Midwest runner prize money which pulled included a 2:10/2:12/2:14 finishers. Hopefully they keep funding the marathon well and we can regularly see a field like this at the TC Marathon.

How about the almost completely unknown 24 year old American (Matt Richtman-- 28:20/13:47 out of Montana State, of all places) debuting in 2:10:45? On this course!
How's that not getting more buzz in the "dreams to reality" department of this place? At this age and with normal improvement, how is this not a 2:05 guy in a few years? He's clearly a pretty pure marathoner.
2:10 debut marathon for Richtman is impressive. He was a two time All American in cross and from watching races always seemed stronger the longer it was. I think we’ll be seeing more of him…
