Subsidies, VC and angel investor gifts, and tax credits factoring into financial reporting is misleading but allowed. Most "profitable" tech companies factor all of those into their accounting and income, even though the income is not your conventional sustainable, repeatable income that most businesses have to rely on to survive. These are all basically gifts, not earned income.

What happens to Tesla if they have to pay their taxes and they get no government assistance? How profitable are they then? I think that's cloudy's underlying point.

Dude laid off 80% of twitter and honestly I don’t think anyone who uses the platform noticed. Maybe he is on to something. Maybe those who have spent their lives in the echo chamber of a government that has never shown an inkling of fiscal responsibility are not the best option for leading the country (I can think of 35 trillion reasons against such leadership). You look at Harris, Biden, Pelosi, etc. and they have lived almost their entire lives in the government bubble. They never had to worry about running a business, earning a profit, etc. I’ve worked both sides of the fence and I can tell you without a seconds hesitation that most government employees are clueless when it comes to running a business (which is sad because governments derive their funds from business profits). The left wants more taxes, a bigger government and less money in the private sector. The right wants fewer taxes, more money in the private sector and less government regulation so that businesses can thrive (and we can all prosper in th process). That is the primary difference between the candidates.

If The Stable Genius had put $100mm in the market, and used the rest to screw around as he has been for the past 50 years, he'd be worth $5.5bn plus whatever all his properties are worth. He says he's worth ~$3bn, which over 50 years is an annualized return of 3.8%. In that same time period, 3 month Treasury bills returned 4.2%. Trump is an atrocious businessperson, and has under performed every risk benchmark.

This is true. As probably the only one on these boards who has actually driven it, I can say that it is an incredible vehicle and the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever driven. Drives like a futuristic sports car. Insanely fast and handles very well because of the novel "steer-by-wire". It also looks amazing up close - the clean, brutalist look grows on you.

Personally, I think other car companies will start to copy aspects of it now. Tesla innovates and legacy auto copies.

As far as D.O.G.E, no idea how it actually will work but I think Elon is the best man for the job. His companies are lean, efficient, and profitable (though X's profitability is yet to be seen). He is the best entrepreneur of our generation.

Musk is a dweeb, but he knows what he is doing. To pretend he is a failure is intellectual dishonesty. The left needs to realize that he is actually the guy bringing most of their ideas to life, and probably has the solution to climate change somewhere in his brain.

Are tax incentives and government handouts part of his success with Tesla? Of course. But you can say the same thing for any car company, farmer, pharmaceutical company, and bank. He knows how to play the game and win.

I will never understand the hate for the Cybertruck. It is so unbelievably unique and I am sure some think it is ugly, but the weird leftist campaign to attack anyone who took a picture next to one is just dumb. It is less expensive than a Lincoln Navigator and it produces zero emissions.

You must have never driven an electric car before. Must of what make the CT good is the fact it is an EV. But the reality is, it is a bad EV. Breaking down at an alarming rate. It has terrible fit and finish, bad range, is 5 YEARS late and the look? well some people liked the Pontiac Aztek. The all wheel steering is kinda neat.

Worse is "free speech" Musk censors anyone on X who doesn't lavish praise on the CT.

Dozens of cars that are less than a Navigator and produce zero emissions.

I have driven all the other Tesla models and I own a Model X and a Model 3. I can say with certainty that the Cybertruck is the best of all of them. The Model S Plaid was fast, but it felt more awkward to drive than the CT due to the weird yoke.

The fit and finish was great on the one I rented on Turo. The range was excellent - drove 260mi and still had 22% left (better than my Model 3).

As far as breaking down, any brand new vehicle is going to have problems. The key is that they are fixing the issues under warranty. Personally, I am waiting for the more affordable versions to come out as the current $100k+ one is too steep for me.
