We changed the title of the thread to make it more factual and descriptive. It was initially entitled, "I guess Brosnan did actually do it," but the release says the former coach (Brosnan) is still disputing the allegations.
Yeah, OK sure. Not sure if you understand how settlements work, but typically it's a compromise between both parties that usually lands in the middle between what both sides think and usually is shaped by the evidence presented. So, the accusations were probably quite a bit more than what what was settled on and UCLA obviously saw there was evidence of some wrong doing, so cooperated and accepted the punishment. If there was no evidence of wrong doing, they would not have accepted penalties. The accusations had merit, which is why UCLA settled.
This is not true. They accepted the minor penalties because they don’t care about Track or Cross country at UCLA. It’s a way for UCLA to move on and they don’t care. The fact that Brosnan has no violations at this point shows he has strong standing and the NCAA’s lack of evidence
Keep telling yourself that Sean. Sorry but you won't coach in the NCAA ever again.
It's no surprise that the NCAA looked into this. In addition to several other college coaches being mad that Brosnan was taking their athletes, Brosnan was bragging in the fall of 2022 that he had several college girls who were going to be transferring to UCLA.
And when those college girls did eventually transfer to UCLA, you can see that the date they entered the portal was only a day or two before they decided to go to UCLA. In other words, they had already decided where to transfer to before they entered the portal.
I think Brosnan's defense will be that he contacted their parents, not the girls directly. Or maybe he asked a friend of his to contact the parents, something along those lines. I would be surprised if the NCAA buys his indirect contact excuse.

of course he will coach again. Coaches hands get slapped all the time and coach at other schools. I mean Michigan football coach went to NFL. Coaches move to other schools all the time after these things.
This is UCLA paying 5k to make it go away. Seems to be a total nothing burger. It’s a win for Sean.
This is a MASSIVE LOSS for Sean. UCLA is vacating their women's NCAA 4th place DMR because of this.
"Additionally, team records will be vacated from all regular-season and postseason competitions in which the involved athletes were ineligible."
Brosnan's single greatest NCAA coaching accomplishment HAS BEEN DISQUALIFIED.
This decision makes it extremely unlikely he will get another college coaching job. It also hurts his resume because he can't claim he coached a 4th place DMR Niches Names on job applications.
The violations include improper recruiting practices, leading to penalties that will impact the program. However, Brosnan has disputed the allegations, asserting that the accusations are unfounded and that he followed all NCAA guidelines.
UNTRUE. People seem to forget that Nico was a freshman when Brosnan took over that team. By the time Nico was a Senior, they had won NXN. Colin was 3rd on the NXN team, and Lex 7th. Brosnan was the reason this happened. He created enough vision to do so, and along the way, got all of the parents and kids to buy into 30 days at Big Bear the summer before that Championship.
Brosnan achieved renown by coaching an Olympian & his two brothers and two other twin brothers who won national championships in high schools. He obviously did well and got people to buy in. But unlike American Fork, York with Newton, or Soles with Great Oak & now Herriman, he achieved success basically by riding the coattails of two enormously talented families. Could he have achieved success with more modestly talented athletes? We may never know, because he probably won’t return to high school and he may never get another chance at a high prestige college program. The people who post non-sense “Brosnan to CU?” crap fail to appreciate how little regard college programs have for high school success. Toss in an NCAA recruiting scandal into the mix and you’re essentially black listed.

Coincidentally enough, I was talking about that with two runners on my team yesterday about a half hour before someone texted me the UCLA violations. Brosnan spoke at a camp they were at this summer, and he said that he could replicate Newbury Park's success "at any high school with 2000 kids." Let's just say I was skeptical.

It's funny that you think Football is the same as XC. Do you not live in the US?

Harbaugh literally got banned by the NCAA for 4 years for doing something very similar to Brosnan.
The NCAA says former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had impermissible contact with recruits and players while access was restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Harbaugh's case is extremely similar in that he contested and the NCAA investigated him separately. HE LOST BADLY.
"The NCAA had already put Michigan on three years of probation along with a fine and recruiting limits after reaching a negotiated resolution in the case. Harbaugh did not go along with the agreement, contesting allegations he failed to cooperate with investigators, and his case was handled separately. The committee on infractions noted that Harbaugh’s “intentional disregard” for NCAA rules amplified the severity of the case and prompted the panel to classify Harbaugh’s case as Level I-aggravated, leading to a one-year suspension as part of the show-cause order. The order runs through Aug. 6, 2028. It requires any school wanting to hire Harbaugh over the next four years to suspend him for the first full season. After that, Harbaugh would be still be barred from athletics-related activities, including team travel, practice, video study, recruiting and team meetings until the order expires."
Harbaugh is capable of getting a pro coaching job as a backup. Brosnan is not. Nobody wants to hire Brosnan. He ruined his entire coaching career.

Sean Brosnan thought he could tamper with Vin Lananna's athletes and parents without any consequences. And he found out!!!
Actually he didn’t do it and he’s free to coach in the NCAA. This was just UCLA opting out of a situation and taking a fine and slap on the wrist. Brosnan has not been penalized or given and penalties. If there was evidence there would be penalties for Brosnan a long time ago. The only thing the NCAA has is Vin Lananna crying about it.

UCLA admitted Brosnan's wrongdoing. Brosnan has not been penalized YET. His hearing is coming. The NCAA must have enough evidence to accept the NCAA's penalties (more than just a fine).
You must have access to the entire case, along with its claims and evidence to claim, with such certainty, that he didn't do it. By the way, he may be free to coach in the NCAA (we'll see what if any penalties come from the case), but schools don't seem to interested in hiring him.
