Kind of, but a 5000m there might make him leggy in Zurich…
I think some of you down voters should explain yourselves here, because last year when Jakob ran his Bislett 1500m five days after the 2mile WR he said he was leggy. And it’s five days between Rome and Zurich (and a time trail 5000m may take an even harder toll on the body than a 2 mile)…
but in the 5000m, he would be spanked by Gebrhiwet and Kejelcha in a 12:30ish or low 12:40 race.
Grant Fisher got more medals than the two of those combined lol. There's levels to this.
but in a TT type of race, there's no way Fisher can get close to those two. Just like no one can get close to Jakob in DL (1500m), but they can easily crush Jakob in a championship race (like what Jakob does to the field in the 5k), unless it's one of those rare occasion someone set the pace for him like Tim in Tokyo.

27:26 10,000m run this year at Ethiopian Trials and 10th at World XC. I would agree that still seems like a stretch to have him in the field proper especially if Morgan McDonald (13:00 PB) couldn't get in this meet. It is possible he is pacing, and I think mediocre is harsh but you'd have to think he would be targeting a 13:05-13:10 type time here. That doesn't make a ton of sense to be in the field unless he is pacing.
And it appears that Morgan McDonald has been added to the meet entries
Yep and Boki Diriba is out along with Edwin Kurgat
nah, it has nothing to do with enjoyment. He just knows that he can dominate the DL circus in the 1500m, but in the 5000m, he would be spanked by Gebrhiwet and Kejelcha in a 12:30ish or low 12:40 race.
After observing that 3,000, it seems the 5,000 might not be as close as we thought.
Possibly a breakaway for the Ethiopian quartet of Kejelcha, Aregawi, Gebrhiwet and probably Mehary. Kwemoi and Lobalu theoretically could go for it too. Feels less likely Ahmed, Fisher, Barega and Haile Bekele will be able to hang unless Silesia was an aberration or the hot pace in a 3,000 scared them off. I suppose a lot can change race to race.
I actually don't think so. 19-21 sure. Guy doesn't look old, and his rapid improvement is notable. That being said, plenty of the Ethiopians get better in terms of refining their tactics and closing speed while not upgrading the engine a ton in their 20s. Barega being one of these (fast as he'd ever be in 2018, but added more hardware from '19-'23). No guarantee that Mehary will become a world-beater, but he does have promise because he is pretty reminiscent of Aregawi I'd say.
Update for the 5000 - along with Fisher, Mehary is out. Boki Diriba is back in. 3 Ethiopians without listed 5000m PBs are in - Melese Nberet (3:31 1500 PB), Endeshaw Reta (3:34) and, Mohammedsultan Wuholo Mulata - pacers for Aregawi WR attempt? At least they're probably the pacers, though not sure if they've paced before
