There is quite a bit of tension and concern. Private companies and wealthy donors will be asked to contribute heavily, if the proposed funding cuts go through. The Paris success of a record 15 gold medals was much needed, toward public pressure not to cut funds and/or encouraging the private sector to get involved.
You know what they say - if you can't pay for your own existence through your profession, you probably should find a new one.

In the US, I don't care if a shoe company or rich donor supports guys who want to run 13-high, 1:05, 2:16 post-Dartmouth etc.
But when it comes to tax dollars I would rather our public sports money goes to programs for kids without the silver spoon.

Lots of athletes are funded by someone other than mommy and daddy. I agree, if I had the means, I would help kids get started. These guys want to view their hot trophies though, kinda like nba owners
