A little off-topic, but has anyone read Tom Wolfe's I Am Charlotte Simmons? It basically takes place at a fictional Duke University (J.J. Johannsen...come on!) and Wolfe's description of the lacrosse/fraternity culture seems to be pretty accurate considering the events of the past couple weeks. Trashy book, but entertaining.

Ok, so one rape case from the athletics program brings out hatred from alumni saying how they wish to shut down the whole program. Frat boys all across the country are out there raping chics all the time but nothing is said about that. Instead, college athletes are staind by the one incident from fellow athletes. I say f*** the frat boys and shut them down before going anywhere near athletics.

yes or like MIT, oh wait that's right furman isn't ranked as the 5th best university in the united states, or top 20 in the world.
A friend of mine played Lacrosse for UMass. Some of the stories he told me (team jack-off contests on the bus) are really out of my depth of field.
Maybe it's just the sport? Maybe it really is rich white kids being the f---ed up individuals that everyone knows they are.
BTW. When Horowitz had just graduated HS...I saw her doing a warm up and cool down with none other than....Regina Jacobs. I think they came to the meet together since they were originally from the same area.

Funny how all the academics trashed that book, but most undergraduates that read it found it to be eerily accurate.

PS scrapping all Duke's athletics teams is the worst f***ing idea ever. Why do you think there is so much public interest in Duke? People apply to schools because they've heard of them. I could understand if you thought Duke should cut back on the amount of student athletes (roughly 700) but you've got to be shitting me if you think you should get rid of the b-ball team? Even at a school like Duke 600/700 athletes aren't on scholarship and are just playing sports for the love of the respective games. As a runner (hence you being on this website) you should know something about that. get a life.
The point is, that VT footballers and others like them have gotten away with enough crap for years. A case even went to the surpreme court about the commerce clause. Marcus Vick, nuf said. Also, Durham is a refuse reciptical. Durham aint nothin, never was and never will be. Honestly can't stand the bull that is spewed by people in that place. More Duke kids will get beaten before they realize which side they're on. And BTW, they didn't pick sides you have the residents of Durham to thank for that. NC, god what a waste of life.

Please re-read what I said, or better still what I did not say. I said get rid of scholarships, not Athletics. I am 100 % in favor of all Athletic programs.

Since it's a criminal prosecution it's up to the DA, if the criminal case is successful then her leverage for a substantial cash settlement would be enhanced surely?
You should read the latest stories at the local TV website, wral.com. The accuser apparently has a criminal record for some bad behavior including car theft, and its very possible these fine young women were trying to rip off these fine young men (paid 800 bucks for a 3 minute dance). A scuffle probably did break out, maybe a little grabbing for the dough, possible minor assault (accounting for some of the money on the floor and the fake nails coming loose). These nice girls left, pissed, because some of their money is on the floor, one concocts the rape allegation at some point, the other chick calls 911 since she knew the street address of the house. Also accounts for the anger they had, leading to the inadvisable email by the punk McFadyen.
Very, very unlikely a jury will ever get a rape conviction, with all these things thrown in to the pot.
There was clear evidence of a rape (the hospital examination). There is no doubt that she was raped- the only issue is whether it happened at the party (clearly it did) and who did it (the big question).
