That’s true, but I still think he’s going to do it anyways. It might be stubbornness but it’s his only shot against Kerr. I don’t even think a winding up of the pace is going to be enough to beat Kerr because his acceleration is just too good. He would disrupt Jakob’s ryhthm and force him to blow up in the final 100. Truly a difficult situation ingebrigtsen finds himself in.
Reynold in his pre-Paris comments actually didn’t seem particularly confident like Tim or Komen. He kept referring to his prep as only “OK” and it seems like he skipped the last 2 DLs uncharacteristically, but for a reason. I’m not sure if there was an injury or what. Despite the bravado this thread has, all 3 always noted they had to navigate the heats and semis first. With Komen and Tim it’s interesting. Komen has been patiently running out front and uncorking the last 300. I think Tim today played it far too safe with refusing to make any big moves until the last 100 and it almost cost him. It worked ok in the end to qualify but if he is to medal he needs to be up there with the top guys. Komen can overhaul some guys late with his explosive finish.
