It's not about hiring one person instead of another because of some category they fit into; rather, it's about ensuring that recruiting and hiring practices are not innately biased or discriminatory. Increasing the diversity of your applicant pool and ensuring fair and non-discriminatory screening/interviewing processes increases the likelihood that the most qualified candidate is someone who increases the diversity of your workforce.

Yeah, statistically the smartest, most ambitious, and most successful (except at US sports) race. Of course they are viewed as worse.
The poorest uneducated immigrants who come here with nothing, work hard, outwork everyone and achieve high levels of success- but we can't discuss that.

Like your 20 minute 5k might win the local park run, but up against more formidable competition you may or may not rise to the challenge. Same idea. You moron.

Obviously for a company to have diversity equity and inclusion among their staff is a good thing. You bring in different view points, treat them equally and include them in major discussions.

can someone explain to me how "DEI hire" fits when (a) you ran for the president job on your own (b) you are vice president of the whole country (c) you were a city DA and a state AG and (d) importantly, you are getting the gig because the default white dude is senile.
