Interesting to see almost triple the negatives to my correct post that Jakob has not won a gold in the 1500m since leaving his father as trainer after Tokyo. He was second to Tefera in 2022 World Indoors, lost to Wightman outdoors, lost to Kerr outdoors, and didn't compete in 2024 World indoors. So, it is just a fact that he has not won the 1500m since leaving his father. Where people may disagree is why. According to Jakob, he lost 2022 World indoors because he had COVID (testing positive); he lost 2023 World Outdoors because he was sick; and he lost to Wightman in 2022 Outdoors due to not pushing hard enough before the last lap. So, he blames illness for two out of the three losses. If illness is just a natural incident that cannot be prevented, then it has nothing to do with his father not coaching him. But Gjert was famously controlling of his athletes and eager to prevent them from coming into contact with other people and getting sick, to the point of preventing them from much social contact, having them wash their hands after most interactions, and demanding that they always get plenty of rest. Because those things do in fact help prevent or delay illness until after crucial events, you actually could attribute his getting sick at Champs to dropping Gjert as a coach. Moreover, you could attribute his loss to Wightman as well to a failure of coaching, failing to give him the proper tactical setup. Losing to Wightman could be attributed to firing Gjert, since he obviously lacked the proper tactical setup to put himself in the best position to win without a fit Timothy Cheruiyot or McSweyn to push the pace. Hence, the loss of Gjert as a coach could actually help to account for his failure to win a World 1500m gold since Tokyo.
