Fun story, my little brother played a JV football game against Valor when the school was a few years old. All of their stud football transfers were required to play a half season of JV and it was a SLAUGHTER. Some all conference/ state level players dunking on a JV team. I think they let a linemen play QB by the end of the game it got so bad.
New rule just passed in Utah saying athletes can transfer without reason and are only penalized with a half season ban. Meaning athletes can transfer and still race by Woodbridge!! Cooper tripp (skyridge 14th at 6a state) and Jackson Spencer (Syracuse 4:15 @ 4500 feet) are both transferring for the upcoming season. NXN is pre determined for the next few years...
Honestly sad; this will take away from the integrity of highschool cross country for years to come. Can’t blame the coach for taking advantage of the system but that doesn’t mean the system isn’t broken
What this doesn’t take away is the fact that last fall, Herriman was able to win NXN without any transfers in their top 7

The sit out periods in CA and UT seem pretty lenient now. In both states all transfers are allowed to participate in the state-qualifying meet and state meet
Not a hater of Soles by any means, but I would like someone to show me what his runners have done at the next level?
I'm not saying they have or have not had success, I'm genuinely curious if anyone has some data points they could share of runners with great success at the next level.
Did you get the memo about the lack of control that Soles or any of these successful high school coaches who supposedly burn out (whatever that means anyway) their athletes in high school have after their athletes move onto college? Maybe it's the college coach. Maybe running is not for everyone after high school and life goals or interests change. Just remember to factor that in...if you can....or want to to keep your conspiracy theories going.

A kid from Syracuse is transferring to Herriman? Those schools aren't in commuting range; what a hassle for his parents.
Something around an hour from Syracuse, easily 45 minutes from skyridge. I understand the transfer from Syracuse (fairly non existent xc program) but Skyridge has potential to be pretty good this year. Not AF/Herriman level obviously but maybe 3rd, 4th in SW region. Gotta feel it for the Skyridge guys.

Coach Alvizo left after 2022 and I heard that the new Skyridge coach isn’t very good. Even if Tripp was still there, I don’t see them beating Herriman, American Fork, Niwot, or Mountain View at NXR. That automatically takes away their chances of making NXN.
I wonder how many transfers there will be from Herriman to American Fork, and from American Fork to Herriman just for running, as long as Soles and Mostert coach the teams they coach now.

Spencer also ran a 9:06 in the 3200 at Arcadia. That’s a better predictor of the XC success. He beat some of the top 4 Herriman returners in the 3200 at the state meet too.
These 2 people are probably going to do better than they would have if they weren’t coached by Soles. They will probably make their teammates better too

I’d guess zero. The drive is too far with traffic and I wouldn’t send my kid over point of the point of the mountain both ways daily through the winter. There are other strong enough programs closer if a kid wants out of one those schools.

When Loudoun Valley was the best in the country, the Hunters spent so much time and energy defending the team on LetsRun, saying they didn’t recruit when people on here continuously said they recruited all the transfers. I’m sure this is the part they don’t miss about coaching the team. The Hunters also said they discourage anyone else to transfer to Loudoun Valley, to show that they in fact don’t recruit.

Is he actually transferring there? Or is he just practicing with them during the summer?
This is good for the sport. I'm stuck in a school district where the fastest boy is 19:00 5k and fastest girl is 26:00 5k.
I wish I could drive 30-45 minutes to a district that actually cares about the sport.
This. Most states do not allow this and it limits athletes who do specialize in niche sports like XC and track. For athletes who want to excel in these sports, attending schools that lack interest or good coaching can be detrimental.
