I didn't realize this until someone told me, but apparently NA's swim team a few years ago broke some national record that was held by a private school that had three future Olympic finalists on it.

That time broke not only their own National public school record, of 2:57.59, set in December, but also cleared the famed Bolles School independent schools’ record of 2:54.43 from 2012. That Bolles relay included Olympic gold medalist Ryan Murphy, Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling, and Olympic 4th-place finisher in the 100 free Santo Condorelli.

I was a 4:08 miler in highschool. graduated 2019. my first year of college I didnt improve at all. ran between 4:08-4:12 all year, then going into my sophomore yr I decided to order some SARMS over the summer because why not? The repercussions of doping are none and the positives are massive. 6 months later in Indoor I ran 3:59 for the first time and by the end of indoor got my mile time down to 3:56. Outdoor ran even better but wont mention my times so you can't figure out who I am.

Regardless - if you take steriods/Sarms and look at track and field its a whole new world. It's like having sxx the first time and then realizing "oh this is what is going on". I'm not here to convince you of anything, but for a few hundred bucks and the same effort workouts I went from 4:08 to 3:56...it's fairly logical to do drugs if you are almost elite. Change my mind.

The 1600m isn’t recognized as an official distance, so I think such distances can be considered a World Best… but the 3:57.08 is not a world best because it ranks as #4 (according to an article I read). However, those three times were en route 1600 times set up just before a mile finish line.

Having a straight up 1600m race suggest a few things. 1) it’s probably not an “all star” hs race; 2) it’s almost certainly a high school only race; 3) it’s part of the hs season; 4) it’s part of a natural progression of hs races (ie dual, invitational, league, sections, or state meets)

The previous best 1600m in a straight up 1600m was a 4:00.29 by German Fernandez in 2008 at the California HS state meet.

Additionally, I think if a longer distance (eg mile) has a superior time (El G’s 3:43.13 for World or Webb’s 3:53.42 for US high school) than a shorter distance (1600m), then those times are the records for the shorter distance.

I recall people giving Drew crap for winning the "weaker" of the 2 XC nationals. Now Drew is one of the top 2 runners in the nation. I am very excited to see his post season running.

Listing 1600m records when converted down mile is faster was always stupid to me

its like listing any of these 3200’s when LV mark is faster for 2m without even conversions to 8:26 3200
