What is the most stupid running advice you've ever heard?🤣(It can be funny)

The US Championships were gonna be in Sacramento at Hughes Stadium. I lived 1.5 hours from there. A non-running friend of my running friend was asking questions about my running, goals, etc. When I said the US Champs were in Sacramento, he lighted up and was stoked at the tremendous advantage I had... because I could frequently drive up to that track and practice there, giving me an advantage over everyone else in the country (I guess except those from Sacramento).

Always interested in this one. Are there any studies that show that nasal breathing is actually worse? Nasal breathing feels a lot more controlled and natural for me, maybe I've just been doing it for too long.

I'm confused

In 10th grade, the track coach (assistant football coach who somehow got demoted to track) told me to "man up and run through the pain" when my shin was hurting so bad I threw up at the end of the workout. Didn't run a step for several months after because of shin splints.

Watched a Mississippi HS JV 2-mile and this kid rips off the first lap in 59. Dad yells "Nice job, Bubba. Keep it up!" Kid comes through 1/2 mile in 2:10 and his dad yells "Bubba, you're slowing down, pick up the pace!". It went south from there and Bubba finished and staggered across the finish line like a wet noodle in 11:45. Dad was pretty disgusted he didn't run sub-8 (I was actually impressed Bubba ran under 12:00).

I love the people who sign up for a race, never train, then do a bunch of running in the week before the race thinking they will be benefiting somehow.

I always tell them they are just making themselves more tired but they refuse to understand how physiology works.

that 18-20 miles is plenty while preparing for the marathon

LSD slow running just teaches you to run slow.

“Supersaturate,” by drinking as much water as you can… was told by a teammate (who later in life got a phd in chemistry!). Tried “supersaturating” before my race at the state meet and felt sick, bloated, lightheaded early into the race. Ran terrible but still got 15th place, would’ve been top 3. Had a side ache for many months after. Water poisoning is real is what I learned! Wtf was I thinking?

My college coach told me that it was more important to focus on lifting during the winter than running when preparing for the 1500/5000

just did some crude math. a person who’s resting heart rate is 40bpm, with two hours of running at 140bpm will have taken less beats than someone who’s heart beats at 70bpm all day long. maybe this theory has some truth to it lol.

My high school indoor track coach told me to use starting blocks for the state final in the 1000 yard run. He was upset because I only got 2nd in our league championship, choosing to kick rather than lead.

I got 5th in state meet in the 1000, the final scoring spot, and he seriously cussed me out. Other than that he was actually a good coach and I really liked him.
